English timeline reflection

Donna Tafsiri                                 English Timeline Reflection

Core competency: Communication

Connect and engage with others (to share and develop ideas)

How I demonstrated me connecting and engaging with others to share and develop new ideas was me asking and responding to simple direct questions. An example of this was me responding to questions my peers in my classroom has something to say or an opinion about something of my timeline, I respectfully disagreed and gave in my opinion from a point of view that I have from it. When other people are presenting on their timeline, I am an active listener and encourage them when they speak about their timeline or their opinion.

Acquire, interpret, and present information (includes inquiries)

How I demonstrated I can understand and share the information about this topic, that is important to me. I showed this during the assignment is me creating a timeline and describing each event that happened during those times. How I showed that I understand this information, was me writing in descriptive detail and presenting it. I presented this assignment in an organized way by using a sway timeline using point form in some of my slides and writing detailed paragraphs about each topic in its own slide. I can present this information to an audience I may not know by possibly going to different classrooms presenting or to family members, teachers.

Collaborate to plan, carry out, and review constructions and activities

How I could have shown in this assignment if I was working with a partner is by possibly coming up with a timeline of when and where each slide needs to be done by so we can have everything done by the due date for it. As well another example of this could be me doing my share of the timeline finishing on time my parts not leaving my partner for all the work. I can take on roles and responsibilities in a group. How I could have demonstrated this was by me taking on an important role and following on with it and doing it not backing out. How I could have summarized the key ideas and identified ways we can agree on. We could have gone, though all the points and key ideas agreed on a way we can summarize everything and include everyones points and ideas.

Explain/recount and reflect on experiences and accomplishments

How I gave and responded to feedback form this project was me responding to my teachers’ critiques and information on how I could make my timeline better. How I reacted and/or could have was if we played a Kahoot (as an activity) I could have responded to those by answering the questions with the knowledge I learned. How I can represent my timeline and tell how it connects to my experiences and effort is by me presenting these events in the timeline and saying how it connected to me as well and talk about how much effort I put in it.

Inventions Project Reflection

Donna Tafsiri                                 Inventions Project Reflection

Core Competency: Creative Thinking

Novelty and value

How I demonstrated novelty and value on my inventions project is by getting help from my other friends and their ideas and their pointers on what I should do for this project. I built on other people’s ideas by taking my friend’s idea by creating something with a fridge and adding more to it. For example, in this situation (project) I took the fridge idea and turned it into something better and more useful by creating how it can detect when all your food in your Lexie Venda-Fridge is going to get expired, or a personalized talking robot named Lexie that can grab your food out of your fridge when you need it. I can generate ideas by pursuing my interest in creating a triple bottom line fridge that is more useful than other normal fridges. My interest was to create a power-saving fridge that is your personal assistant in many ways, by asking for it to drop “the milk” in the Venda-slot to save energy and power to your power bill. I got ideas that were new to my peers by making an original creative item that I personally came up with and showed my peers something that they haven’t heard/seen of before. How I developed a body of creative work in an area that is in my interest and how I demonstrated it. How I did that was by developing a creative body of work that I put my time and effort into.

Generating ideas

How I used my senses to explore and get ideas. How I demonstrated that in this project was by using my ability to talk to other people to develop and share new ideas to come together to create something original. I built on others, ideas by making a triple bottom line fridge and how I added to that was by taking the fridge idea and turning it into something more advanced and creative by adding different features to the fridge. During this project, when I ran into a problem and how I showed to solve that problem was when I couldn’t possibly make that Lexie Venda-Fridge itself in person so I decided to, make a mini model of what it would look like as if it was in person. A creative way of how I demonstrated this was when I used, cardboard, paper, glue, and pencils, to create the mini model of It and solve my issue of not being able to make a real fridge. How I learned something during this project by doing research. I learned a lot doing research about fridges and how much each piece costs to make it manufacture it to sell it and place it all together. During my research, I also learned the time it takes to build a fridge and how many parts it needs and how many people to come together to make an advanced fridge like the Venda-Fridge. How I showed an original new idea to make this invention even better was when I made it be different colours of stainless steel, that was a particular idea that popped up into my head.

Developing ideas

How I changed an idea that didn’t work into something that could be instead of me searching up things on the internet and coming up with unoriginal ideas I stopped searching with no use of my electronics and came up with an idea myself. For example, in this project my first idea was a coffee mug that was, where you would have 3 different buttons on the mug and one would be for hot water, one would be for cold, and one would be for crème for your coffee. Since there was no possible way for me to visually show this idea, I generated new ideas to come up with a different one. During this assignment how I made all my ideas work together was by adding up all the pieces and making sure one idea for the fridge wouldn’t stop me from adding another feature to it. How I have demonstrated my experience with various steps and attempts to direct my future work. How I have used my skills I already have to demonstrate that it helped me to create this project was using communication. Communicating with my peers, classmates, friends, or teacher to ask for help when I need it.

Inventions Project

Lexie Venda-Fridge

Proposal: The Lexie Venda-Fridge is invented to help you organize your fridge with a built-in robot system. The purpose of the robot system which is the main part of the fridge is an automatic voice system that responds to anything starting with “Hey Lexie”.  Lexie is a built-in robot in your Lexie Venda-Fridge that is there to help you organize your fridge and help you with any fruits, vegetables, condiments.

For example, if you ask Lexie “Hey Lexie, drop the ketchup in the Venda-slot” it will automatically take 1.3 seconds to drop the ketchup in the slot.

This process makes it more, easy and officiant to grab your condiments/fruits and veggies, etc out of your Venda-Fridge.

By using the Lexie Venda-Fridge is helps save your fridge’s energy and power instead of having to keep opening and closing your fridge door. By using the Lexie Venda-fridge you also save lots of power, that can lower monthly bills for your power usage. This fridge is better than other fridges because it also helps the environment by using LED lights bulbs in the fridge and freezer that are under 55 watts.

Cost of the Lexie Venda-Fridge: The total cost of the Lexie Venda-Fridge is $2,500.

Unlike any other normal fridge, the Lexie Venda-Fridge comes with an additional charge of $150 for any stain-less steel colour of your choice, for example, we have the options of, Silver stainless steel, Green stainless steel, Blue stainless steel, Pink, purple, yellow, orange, and red.

Estimated Size of Lexie Venda-Fridge: The estimated size for the Venda-Fridge is 35’’ 3 doored fridge, is 107’’ across and 163’’ from top-bottom. The Lexie Venda-Fridge is the same average amount as any other fridge in the market.

The time it takes to build: The estimated time it takes to build the Venda-Fridge is 2 months + shipping straight to your door only takes 5 days (WITH NO EXTRA SHIPPING COST!)

Wood Bug Assighnment-

Wood Bug Project

Donna Tafsiri                            Science Wood Bug Project Reflection

Core Competency: Communication

Connecting and engaging with others (to develop and share ideas)

I engaged with other people in my group to ask and respond to simple questions that they had about the wood bug assignment or if I had any questions. I was an active listener by supporting and encouraging them when they are speaking and not being disrespectful. An example of how this happened during this assignment is when my group member had a different idea on how we should get the woods bugs to move to the other side of the bin I respectfully listened and encouraged her. I recognized that there are different points of view on things and instead of disagreeing saying ‘my idea would be better’ we found a way to include both ideas into our wood bug assignment.

Acquire, interpret, and present information (includes inquiries)

During this assignment, I was able to understand the concept and share the information that was the most important to me. During this assignment how I demonstrated this by picking and writing/presenting the procedure and conclusion. How I can present this information clearly and in an organized way is by putting everything in a powerpoint, possibly in point form. I can present this information to an audience I may not know by going to different classes.

Collaborate to plan, carry out, and review constructions and activities

I Can work with others in my group to achieve our goal of getting a good mark on the assignment, as well when I have a part to do in our project I contribute and finish it. An example when I took on roles and responsibilities in my group was, when I had a responsibility to finish my part so we could, hand it in on time. As well as not doing a bad job on my share of the assignment (no sloppy work).  How I can summarize key ideas and identify the ways we agree. I did that by agreeing with each other to figure out who is doing what parts of the assignment. Another way we all (me) identified ways to summarize the main points as

we did some brainstorming on everything the wood bugs did.

Explain/recount and reflect on experiences and accomplishments

I received feedback on my portion (work) of the assignment from other people in my group. I responded to their idea, feedback by going back into the assignment and correcting my mistakes or pointers that they give. I can respond to other people’s questions about the assignment if they have any from my learning and experience. I can elaborate on my experience with other people and explain how I learned.

My future career that is in my interest: A future career that I’ am interested in is becoming a general surgeon. Ever since I was 7, I wanted to become a doctor, and now that I am a bit older and know exactly what types of doctors there are, I took a very big interest in being a surgeon. I am very passionate about becoming a surgeon specifically General Surgeon when I am older because I love learning about the human body and learning how things work in our bodies. There are a lot of different types of surgeons for example like a Neurosurgeon which focus on the brain, neck, and spine or a pediatric surgeon which is a surgeon for kids under the age of 17, cardio surgeons are for the heart, but my personal favourite and big interest to learn in is general surgery. A general surgeon focuses on more than one organ, unlike other surgeons general surgery specializes on the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. Although during the five-year residency, the surgical experience must be gained in areas including the abdomen, endocrine system, vascular surgery and solid organ transplant. In addition, experience in pediatric surgery, trauma, emergency surgery and critical care surgery must also be gained. After completing the residency and obtaining the required number of operative hours, physicians can apply to take an exam in order to become board certified in general surgery. General surgeons also need to become licensed in the state they wish to practice.

I am passionate about this specific job because, a surgeon helps people every single day, saves lives. Although becoming any type of surgeon/Physician comes with many years of school and a very expensive education. According to the government of Canada, you need your completion of undergraduate and graduate education (a baccalaureate degree and a medical degree). As well these generally include four years of medical school leading to a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree and three to six years of surgical residency at a hospital. As well as how expensive medical school is in Canada, it is estimated to be around $190,000-$207,866, which is quite a lot of money just to become a doctor. But that does cover everything you could need to study and go to school. With this job even though all the stress and the work that is put into it, it becomes personal satisfaction. One other major qualification to become a surgeon completely is to become board certified. The salary expectations for this particular job is to be $290,975, that is once you become board certified and an attending. Once you are officially done medical school and start your internship at a hospital which is your first year of residency your average salary is $51,290 a year in Canada, so it is a quite long road to get to that high salary. Any type of surgeon’s salary is anything around $24,000-$437,500.

Although, with any type of job there are a lot of disadvantages. With this job, there are many disadvantages like lots of stress and time consumption. Becoming a surgeon takes 100% effort, time, and most importantly commitment. Sometimes lawsuits as well. With any type of doctor, there is always a chance with lawsuits. One last disadvantage for this job is very long hours. Specifically, a surgeon does surgery, the surgery takes a very long time anything form in between, 3-30 hours of standing straight up on your feet. But with all the disadvantages there are lots more advantages for this job.

This job has been in demand for me since I was a little 100%. Even though it takes almost up to 8-9 years, every experienced physician has said it is worth it in the end and I believe so as well. I think any job that comes with saving lives is very good. I still like this job because, every day it becomes a learning opportunity as well, even when your done medical school or your residency.

One person that I have very close contact with and has been a major role model for me since I wanted to become a doctor has been my aunt. My aunt is a family doctor, but she has experienced almost 4-5 years of school. My aunt is quite familiar in the field of going to medical school. I asked my aunt that lives in Iran, and she said it takes hours and hours of studying, and even though she didn’t even go to the surgical section of medical school, she still became a family doctor, and even that still took lots of her hours and money every day.

Quote: “Because I grew up with a strong family tradition of surgery, I also acquired a strong perception of the joys and demands of being a surgeon. Assisting people who are ill or injured has been and continues to be a rewarding dimension of the surgical profession for me. I would certainly pursue a career as a surgeon again without a second thought. And I would highly recommend the surgical profession to my children or any young person who is interested in a career that requires a lot of you and gives you even more in return.

–George F. Sheldon, MD, FACS, General Surgeon

When a patient gets well his doctor ‘feels’ good–a personal warm glow that tells him once again what being a doctor is. This pleasure never dulls with age or time, remains vital and strong after decades of practice. ‘Becoming a doctor’ is acquiring this ability to help a sick person get better. It is one of the most precious skills one can acquire in a lifetime.”

I chose this as my favourite video on youtube because, i really love this persons story and how where he is now and where he was along time ago and i find this video supper interesting and inspiring for me as well. i find it very inspiring because, he talks abut how he wants to make a footprint in this world before he leaves and he sings a song to talking about it and his voice is amazing and he isn’t very famous yet, and still this song that he wrote is one of my most favourite songs.

Favourite Quote:

“No matter how dark it gets, the sun’s gonna rise again”

” Whats broken can be mended, whats hurt can be healed”

these 2 quotes are from my absolute most favourite thing on earth (TV show) which is Grey’s Anatomy. Grey’s Anatomy, even thought it just a TV show it has taught me so many things. and i picked these 2 quotes out of 16 seasons not just because they are my favourite but also because, i find them very true and for the “No matter how dark it gets the sun’s gonna rise again” one i think is very true because, no matter what happens to you, even if it’s the most hurtful thing there will be a new start eventually, a new day, a new year, and the sun will rise again, no matter how dark it gets. For the second quote i chose it because, i also think its true and whats broken or gone cant come back or can’t be fixed completley. “What’s hurt can be healed” i think is true because whatever is hurt or who ever it will heal eventually and as time goes on it will hurt less and less, and by the end of it it will only hurt a little.
