About Me

I am Joseph, I am in grade 9, and going to Heritage Woods Secondary School. My hobbies are basketball, exercise, and video games/youtube. I like to listen to and play music, and air cadets. I started playing basketball because of my brother, I saw him playing a lot and it seemed interesting so I also started playing. I like to exercise so I can play better basketball, and so when I enlist in the military I can pass everything physical. I also started playing video games because of my brother. I like listening to music because it sounds good, and started playing music because I wanted to learn the drums. I like air cadets because it teaches you how to maintain a uniform, drill, discipline, which are all important in the military. I also like the summer training opportunities.

This video is a video of the first “Linsanity” game. Linsanity was the name for the short time when Jeremy Lin, an Asian-American basketball player, went from a nobody benchwarmer to one of the best players in the NBA less than a week. This had never happened before and was really hyped up because he was Asian. Sadly that put a lot of pressure on Jeremy, and once he started to slow down people started calling him overrated because of the immense hype everyone put on him. If you understand the backstory of this game, his struggles which include him being on the brink of being cut from the team, him having to sleep on a teammate’s couch, this was his final chance to show that he was something. So Jeremy started slow, making a few good passes which led to scores, a few defensive stops, a couple layups, then he started making a few and-one plays, a few alley-oop passes, a few shots, he started to really shine. This was the beginning of “Linsanity”, and the reason Jeremy Lin made it in the league.

This photo is a poster for the movie Hacksaw Ridge. I like this photo because I like this movie. It’s about a Seventh-Day Adventist Christian who refuses to take up a weapon because he refuses to kill. This leads to problems between the military officers and Desmond, the Seventh-Day Adventist. They think that he would be a burden more than a help on the field because he refuses to kill, and therefore cannot protect himself and his wounded. During a court-martial where Desmond is about to be arrested, his father comes in with a note saying that Desmond has a right to have his beliefs as they are protected by an act of congress, so Desmond goes to battle. he goes to Okinawa to a place nicknamed “Hacksaw Ridge”. It is named that partly because there is a rope escarpment that you need to climb to get to the area. During the battle, the Japanese eventually overwhelm the American battalion, and they retreat down the escarpment, but not Desmond. He refuses to leave the wounded behind, so throughout the evening/night, he sneakily takes wounded soldiers, one by one down the escarpment, by tying them to a rope, and sliding them down. Every time he got another man down, he would pray “God, please help me get one more”. By the end, he had carried about 50-100 wounded men down the escarpment and was rewarded the Medal of Honor, the highest award for courage under fire.

This is a bible verse, I like this verse because it is very simple and represents the way that I think about adversities. Whenever there are struggles, all you have to do is pray, or think of God, and it strengthens you. If you have trust in God, and God’s plan, you don’t have to worry because you know that whatever happens that in the end it will work out for you, and God’s glory.
