Core Competency Reflection:
Core Competency: Creative Thinking

During this assignment I was able to use the core competency Creative Thinking in many ways. One way I had to use this core competency is when the angle or position of photos weren’t working, I had to use this core competency to improve them. For example, while taking photos I was able to get ideas when I used my senses to explore. More specifically, I mainly used the sense of sight to determine the best angle to take a photo. Another example of using this core competency is when I found new ways to create things or solve straightforward problems. Some evidence of how I can use this is when I had to rethink the positioning of my group members because the current poses were not working. One other way I was able to use this core competency to improve the photos is when I could get new ideas or build on other people’s ideas, to create new things. While finding better angles for the photos, I also used the ideas my other group members had. These were some ways I used the core competency Creative Thinking to find or improve the angles of photos.

A different way I was able to use Creative Thinking is when I was editing my groups photos. One of the ways I was able to use this core competency is when I generated new ideas as I pursued my interests. Photo editing is one of my many interests and I was able to come up with new ideas on how to edit the photos, like what images to use for “props” and how to place them. Another way I used this core competency while editing the photo’s is when I developed a body of creative work over time. The process of editing my group’s photos was a development of creative work as editing photos is a creative process which takes ideas and thoughts to make. One other way I could use creative thinking while editing photos is when I could make my ideas work or change what I am doing. While editing photos, sometimes the placement of prop images or the prop image itself wasn’t working, so I had to change the way I was using it or find another way to edit the image or find a different image to use for a prop.

During this assignment I was able to use Creative Thinking in many ways, however I couldn’t use it to its full extent. One way I could have used this core competency but didn’t is getting ideas that are new to my peers. During the assignment I had lots of ideas for photo taking and editing, but most of the ideas weren’t new to my peers. One other way I could have used this core competency is by deliberately learning a lot about something. This mainly applies to the photo editing part as I didn’t take the time to learn about more advanced techniques for photo editing and stuck to what I already knew. In conclusion, I was able to use Creative Thinking in many ways while taking and editing photos, however there are some ways I could have used the competency more but didn’t.
