Student Reflections:
- Give three reasons why you would like this job (be specific):
- a) ___The location of the job. It is in downtown Vancouver, which is a very pretty location, especially since it is so close to Stanley Park. There is lots to do and lots to buy around here, so during lunch breaks, taking a walk around the park is a great idea.___ _
- b) ___The vibes of the people in the building and the vibes of the city around it. It is very peaceful and there isn’t a lot of conflict involving the people, and everyone respects each other. ___
- c) ___I like the freedom it gives. While it may not be a lot, with it being an office job and all, the office space and the openness makes people feel happy to be in it. __
- Give three reasons why you would not like this job (be specific):
- a) __I wouldn’t like that it’s an office job. Since having an office job requires a lot of desk work, I don’t think I would enjoy that very much just because so much of the day is spent sitting down. I am a person who enjoys physical activity and being involved, so sitting for most of the day won’t be a good option for me, especially when I get older. __
- b) __Though I really enjoy the location of this work, It is quite far from where I live and since we used public transit to get here, it was faster than car, but I still think I’d prefer to work close to home.__
- c) __There isn’t a lot of variety with the duties of the job. The topic of shipping logistics in general does not peak my interest, and I am a big believer in that you should be interested in your work to get the best performance. I think if I had this job I would be bored very quickly, and my performance might be lacking quite a bit. ___
- Is this job for you? Why or why not?
__This job is not for me. The cons outweigh the pros. I don’t think I would do well with a job like this one, especially since it is related to something that does not interest/inspire me, and it is an office job. I am also quite a hands-on person, so doing things on a computer screen/on a spreadsheet every day doesn’t really interest me too much.
- Explain the value of the TYKTW experience in relation to your ideas about your post secondary (after high school) plans (education?, training?, travel?, work?).
__After high school, my dream is to get recruited to play volleyball at a good university. Even though this is such a huge goal of mine, schoolwork will always come first. As for education and work, I’m not sure which path I want to go just yet, but I have a very vague idea of what I know I don’t want. I plan to narrow down my options from there. The value of the TYKTW experience is to really get a taste of what it’s like having certain jobs, and to see if this is something you want to do when you’re older. It’s a special opportunity, since kids don’t have jobs so it’s difficult to understand what it’s like.
Lauren, Good work on your Take Your Kid to Work Day assignment. You have included a photo of your workplace visit and you have correctly tagged and labelled your assignment. You could provide a little more detail next time and develop your reflection further.
