Wood Bug Experiment:
In Ms. Prosperi Porta’s science 9 class, we conducted a wood bug experiment in groups of three. Our goal was to make wood bugs travel through a course, and get to food. In this project I learned the skills on communicating with my group members, and how use word online to make graphs, while also being socially responsible because there were three people typing on the same document at once. First off, my group members and I had our own roles and we had to communicate well to decide who was going to bring what for the experiment. Also, we needed to have good communication because on word online, everyone can type at the same time and we each needed to know our own roles and responsibilities so we would not result in eraseing other people work. My group and I also tried to be creative in making our maze, so that it was easier for the wood bugs to use their senses to find their way to the food. I feel that after completing this experiment, I learned how to better my communication with others, how to be more creative in the making of projects, and thinking critically throughout. If I were to do this experiment again, I would have gathered more wood bugs to experiment with for more precise data, and pick group members more wisely beforehand.
Arctic Ice Cap:
In my science 9 class, we had an assignment on the Arctic ice cap and how it is affected by global warming. With this assignment, we had questions to answer but we weren’t allowed to just simply answer the questions, we had to find a new way to creatively present our information. I chose to make a newspaper where I had pictures, a title page and headings explaining and questions about what I was going to tap about down below. Looking back on this assignment, I have grown in my ability to come up with an opinion and prove I am correct by finding evidence by thinking critically and being resourceful. This project really pushed me out of my comfort zone by not having just one answer that is correct because there were no specific answers. What we had to do, was a lot of research and analyzing of information and on top of that, present our information in a new and unfamiliar way than what we are used to. The most valuable information I learned from this project is to push myself to come up with new creative ideas and try new ways of presenting information.
