Science 9
Site C Project, This is my Site C project from science. We researched the Site C dam and decided weather the government should continue. I did this project with Avery Larmour. I enjoyed doing this. I found the topic interesting and I can’t wait to see what the government chooses. Our answers were thought out and very thorough. If I could redo this I would proofread more. We got so excited about the topic some things are not capitalized. Overall this has been an improvement from our wood bug project. Something I learned was communication. I learned how to talk and communicate about my thoughts. I practiced persuasive writing by trying to persuade the reader to agree with my opinion.
Wood Bugs Project, This is Something I researched in September which foods do Wood Bugs prefer. The wood bug project was very exciting. The bugs kept escaping, they weren’t very interested in the food. Avery was my partner for this project. Something I would change is how I read the criteria. We did a table of qualitative data instead of a chart. In the conclusion of the assignment I needed to explain my answers more. I would have liked to build on our idea to have bacon V.S lettuce. We wanted to do this to see which food item they like to hide under. We learned they didn’t like to eat the food they only liked to hide under it. Another thing I learned about was creative thinking. I used creative thinking because we had to build a habitat for my wood bugs with a divider between them. I needed to readjust my habitat when the bugs kept trying to escape. My solution was a product of creativity. I needed to wrap in with plastic wrap then poke holes in so they would;t climb up the walls.
Onion Lab, this was a lab that we did on onion cells to learn about cell division. I though this lab was very captivating. It was very interesting to see so many stages of cell division. the hardest stage to find was telophase. If I could go back and change something it would my explanation. I needed to explain my thoughts more and expand on my ideas. In this lab I learned more about critical thinking. I learned how to calculate the percentage of what stages all the cells are in. I also created a graph and came to a conclusion that majority of the cells were in interphase. They were mostly in interphase because in that stage the cell carries out it’s function and prepares to divide. So the cell should be doing it’s function for the greater part of the time instead of dividing for the mass of the time. the picture below is the onion cells under the microscope.
