Assignment 4 – Take Your Child to Work Day

As the school year has progressed, I have found that I have enjoyed my time at Heritage Woods very much. The first two months have been fun. I have met new people, made new friends, and taken in all the new experiences from the school. The past two months have met my expectations. Going into secondary school, I was expecting an experience similar to middle school; however, as I have experienced the year so far, I realized that my judgement was flawed. The people, the freedom, the workload, the events, the sports teams, clubs and more all differ heavily from middle school.

There are three tips that I would give to people coming into secondary next year. First, do not be afraid to meet new people. Most likely, you will not be sharing more than 1 or 2 classes with your friends from middle, so seize the opportunity to meet lots of people and make good friends. Just in the first 2 months, I have become good friends with people to which I would normally never talk to. Secondary school gives you many new opportunities.

Second, keep your grades up. Grades in secondary are much more significant compared to middle; staying focused in class is key. Even if you are a star athlete or are already successful in outside of school activities, keeping your grades up gives you a backup plan. Do not put your grades on the bottom of your list just because you are successful in other areas.

Lastly, try new things: join a club, try out for a sports team, take classes that normally you would not take. Basketball, soccer, business, leadership, track and field, Heritage Woods provides a club for everyone. There are many benefits to joining a club. You can meet new people, enjoy your hobbies after/before school, or find a new like that you were not aware of before.
