English Creative Story-2072tn9

This assignment forced me to use creative thinking. It made me look at random junk, and figure out what it could possibly be. My partner and I picked up a screw and an odd rubber object, and decided to make it a bottle of poison complete with a stopper. It took a while to finally decide on what it could be, because there were so many possibilities. If I hadn’t done this assignment, I would definitely have just walked past the items, ignoring them completely. instead, I picked them up and thought of all the possible things it could be used for, other then what I already knew it was used for.

This assignment made me think in both a critical and creative way. I had to come up with creative ways to make people want to vote for my character, but I also had to think critically about which strategies would work and what wouldn’t. I had to make sure that the strategies I was using would actually work on the rest of the students in my class, which meant I had to analyze the strategies and the students, and decide which would appeal most to the students. It also forced me to work on communication as well, as  we were put into groups. I don’t usually enjoy group projects, as I prefer to work on my own. So, this project made me work on communicating and compromising with my group members.

The only thing the picture really helped with was the beginning of the poem, as it gave me a direction to go in. Once I got past the first few lines however, it just made it harder. I find creative writing easier when I have complete freedom, and don’t have to make sure to stick to a topic as much as possible. When I don’t have to focus on a topic, I can just allow my thoughts to take me in the direction that works for what I’m writing. Trying to make sure I stay on topic makes it harder for me to do that. So, I’d honestly say that I used some critical thinking as well. Because even though I was using creative thinking to actually write my poem, I was thinking critically about how I could relate it to the picture.
