Orange shirt day is Truth and Reconciliation Day, a day to reconcile and remember the indigenous kids that were forced in residential schools. It is important because it teaches us about those events so that we make sure things like that don’t happen again.

Canada has made a lot of progress in addressing the 94 calls to action. Since the recognition of the survivors of residential schools in 2008, the government has completed started 45 of these calls to actions, and 30 others have been proposed to start.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Truth and Reconciliation Day was established in June 2021. It was established in order to make September 30th a day to reflect on and honour the healing journeys of residential school survivors.

In short, Call to Action #63 is a call to action that involves education from Kindergarten to Grade 12 on Aboriginal peoples and their history, sharing information on the best ways to teach, building student capacity for intercultural learning and respect, and identifying teacher training for those topics. This assignment helps us by allowing us to have access and to research about Aboriginals peoples and their culture.

Coquitlam was named after kʷikʷəƛ̓əm and kʷikʷəƛ̓əm is derived from Red Fish Up the River. The sockeyes apparently ran so thick it was hard to navigate the canoes.
