Orange shirt day is a day to raise awareness for those that where taken away for their homes and put into residential schools. It celebrates the victims and survivors of residential schools, with the motto every child matters. It is celebrated on September 30th.

We have 13 done, 43 underway, and 18 not started. I think Canada has done pretty well to begin with the 94 calls to action, but much needs to be done still.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

On March 9, 2023, the Province of British Columbia made September 30 National Day For Truth And Reconciliation, National Day For Truth And Reconciliation was established because the government wanted people to have time to think more about Truth and Reconciliation and engage in activities such as reading a book, watching a movie or video, and supporting an indigenous business.

We call upon the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada to maintain an annual commitment to Indigenous education issues such as Building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect. This assignment helps me build “my capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy and mutual respect” by teaching me about different truth and Reconciliation acts and making me think about and reflect on different topics regarding it.

The name Kwikwetlem means red fish up the river. in the 1900’s a dam was built on the river so the Kwikwetlem people didn’t have any food, they were kicked off their land as well and had to live on reserve. they now have homes, a thriving community, and a promising future.

i learned that the first nations language hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ is severely endangered with less than 100 fluent speakers left, it was once widely spoken by many First Nations across the Lower Mainland from the Fraser River delta to around the Stave River.
