Digital footprint Assignment

The following is supposed to be in the form of an article

So what is a Digital Footprint exactly?

A digital footprint is a piece of information that you post online at any point in your lifetime, and can be used against you or for you/your reputation at anytime in the future.  A Digital footprint can be anything from a simple picture you posted on Instagram when you were 12 to a Youtube video that you posted to even your digital resumé.  This information that is called a “Digital Footprint” is more valuable than you think because when getting a job offer in the digital age, it’s this information that people find out about you that can affect your future and you may not be aware of it.

Researching my Digital footprint

So I started off with searching up my full name, Adib Etemadi, on Google.  The result was a ton of different logos and media for something called ADIB: personal banking in the UAE (United Arab Emirates).  Sure enough, ADIB is the name of an online bank based in the UAE and Egypt and stands for Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank.  This sort of information was useless of course because it has nothing to do with me or my digital footprint.  I was already confident with searching up my real name online because as far as I knew, I had never had my real name on any public source on the internet, or at least that I could remember. So after searching up my full name in an attempt to find valuable info about myself with zero triumph, I started searching up usernames that I have had in the past in hope of finding something of value.  So I searched up the first one, TBC44/TheBudderCreeper44 and sure enough there are two pictures.  One of them is hard to see but upon closer inspection, one can observe the thumbnail of a video which I’m pretty sure I had deleted or put on private, where my 10 year old face is seen wearing a hoodie in the thumbnail.  Of course, I know that the picture that I found isn’t inappropriate nor wrong in anyway, but then again when I would be getting a job, would I be wanting a “funny/weird” picture like that of a ten year old me show up once they do a background check? The second picture that I found is a screenshot of my desktop background from a long time ago which I can’t even remember when.  I don’t actually know how that screenshot appeared on the internet in the first place.  It seemed to have a link to a Youtube video, and when I clicked it, I discovered that it was the thumbnail for a video about the video game MineCraft I had posted back in 2014.  I guess at the time, I didn’t know the editing skills to remove all of the desktop features off of the thumbnail to make it look “proper”.  After finding those pictures, I tried the same thing with my other usernames that I have used for various things in the past, and didn’t find anything else related to me.

As a whole, I would say that I’m pretty safe in the way that I use the gift of the internet on a daily basis as well as thinking before posting in general.

Good job on completing your Digital Footprint assignment. Here is your evaluation:

Message shows a good understanding of your digital footprint. Media works well with your message but the two could complement each other better. Good information present; answers are typical and accurate. Information could be a bit more detailed and elicit a response from the audience. The final product would be well received by an audience but at present would not necessarily elicit a response or discussion on the topic. 4/5

    Infographic Feedback
You have done a great job constructing your infographic. Images and text are present and are used in such a way that it enhances the information that is presented. You have detailed information on all three of the topics (google searches, reliability of information, and your personal learning network) and have demonstrated an excellent understanding of all three. Well Done. 5/5
