So the requirements for the YouTube video was that it had to be school appropriate and had to send a positive message which i can tell you was a bummer because i spent what felt like my whole elementary school years looking at ridiculous and silly videos that had me laughing my pants off (once literally) but this one’s good too. It’s a story about a local paddleboarder named Karl Kruger who lives on Orcas Island in northern Washington state. In fact i personally met him on a paddleboarding trip with my dad. Now there is this annual race from Victoria, B.C. to Ketchikan, Alaska and the only rules are that you may only use self propelled watercraft and have no outside support. The entire length of the race is about 750 miles (1207 km) but that doesn’t stop Karl, he navigates the whole race using nothing but his paddleboard and a paddle. Whenever I’m paddling against some nasty headwind i always think back to this story because i feel like it is so inspirational and motivating and it always helps me paddle that extra kilometer, and i hope it helps you too.
