This year in Literary Studies 10 I want to improve my public speaking skills. I’ve never been the type of student that enjoys presentations or is comfortable with talking in front of groups of people. I am usually good with eye contact and things like that but the main things I need to improve on is hand gestures and voice projection. I can improve on this by practicing a lot before a presentation, memorizing my script or doing things like answering questions and elaborating in conversations with my peers. I think by doing things like this will help build up confidence and help me with my public speaking. Another thing I want to incorporate with my writing this year is more advanced vocabulary. I tend to stick to an average amount of advanced vocabulary but I think if I add more complex words it will help my essays become more descriptive. I can expand my vocabulary by being exposed to different styles of writing and reading more often. I usually don’t read for fun but I’d like to get more into it sometime soon. When I read I usually stick to the same genre which is “Social Issues.” I like how the storyline is very realistic and there are many relatable aspects for the reader. You feel like you can connect with the situations and characters which is why I enjoy the genre so much. I’d like to start branching out an reading different novels such as suspense/thriller and maybe fantasy. If I read different types of books I believe it will add some diversity to my writing and overall improve it.
