Treaty of Paris video

Core Competencies Reflection

Here is evidence that I can…strategize, analyze, reason, estimate, model, be creative, visualize, reflect and revise, connect, use mistakes to advance learning, use technology or other tools, extend, reason logically, adapt my ideas, etc.

Core Competency: _______Critical Thinking_____________

In my socials Treaty of Paris project, my group did an iMovie that explained the historical significance of the Treaty of Paris. We began by researching and taking notes, then created a script and started our iMovie. I was in charge of the iMovie, and I put a bunch of pictures we found that related to the Treaty of Paris together. I added transitions so the video would flow and I helped record the voice-overs. Some voice-overs could be a little difficult to arrange (I may have accidentally deleted one, and then used the ‘undo’ option). I think that what our group could have done better is some audio recordings and we could have found pictures more quickly and ahead of the time we made the video. But we managed and were flexible with continuing to find pictures. However, I really liked our video and the way we choose to do it. It’s been one of my more successful projects so far, I had a good group this time and I was able to focus without worrying. I’m glad I got to be in charge of the iMovie because I got to work on something I was experienced with and play to my strengths. Next time, I think we could try to do that with everyone and find out what everyone is good at, then put each other in charge of specific sections. Ways I want to improve are, I want to be less anxious about projects in the future and divvy up the work more. I want to make sure everyone is happy with what they’re doing and feel included, and I hope I didn’t take this project over too much. I can always try harder, I think, even if it seems like I can’t, because there’s always something more to work towards.

Creative thinking poem reflection:

I started writing my poem with picking a picture for my poem. This may seem self-explanatory, but it actually took me awhile to choose. I wanted to write about something that I knew, something that spoke to me. I decided on my picture because it seemed dramatic yet simple. Then I began writing my poem. It was actually hard to get started. Doing a simile was surprisingly easy, however. I am still not completely sure about my personification (the petals reached), but in my mind it seems to work. I found my metaphor came easily to me. I was simply referring to the general idea of one thing standing out. The alliteration was a little harder, I couldn’t think of that many s words at first, (I decided on using s words for the alliteration because that’s where I was at the time). Writing this poem was harder for me than writing poems in my free time, but I just had to reassure myself that I was doing well. I hope I communicated some sort of bigger meaning with my poem. I think I can honestly say I’m happy with the turnout.

Merchant of Venice Tableau

Gratiano and Nerissa argue over Nerissa’s ring.

Portia reveals that she had been disguised as a man and took Bassanio’s ring.

Antonio tries to stop the arguing.

Reflection:

For my groups’ Merchant of Venice Tableau, I admit that it was kind of slow going at first. It was hard to find a good photoshop app and we had some trial and error. We eventually decided on just taking the pictures anyways, but then we figured out how to add the background. We could have improved on efficiency. Adding the correct background was pretty time consuming because we had to use an apple pencil to colour out the background of the classroom and add the appropriate background. As for the actual photo, we had to improvise because our group didn’t have enough boys for all the shots. For one picture, Megan was Gratiano and I was Nerissa. Sofia was Antonio in another (she wore a hood). Scene 5 was a fairly easy scene to capture, as it was probably the shortest scene in the play. Our photos are based on the arguments about Portia and Nerissa’s rings and Antonio trying to stop the arguing. Overall, I’m okay with how our photos turned out, and it was good that we had to find creative ways to solve problems.

Core Competencies Reflection

Here is evidence that I can… generate new ideas, build upon my ideas, build upon or combine ideas of others, develop ideas through experimentation or writing, use setbacks to advance my thinking, take significant risks with my thinking etc.

Core Competency: _______Creative Thinking_____________

I organized my poster in Pages, separating it into 3 sections for each rule. My three rules were listening to the teacher, wearing your hair up and appropriate clothing, and making sure you know what to do. I searched “free clip art” to find appropriate pictures for each section. My first clip art picture is of simply a group of kids looking up at the teacher, listening. I included this rule as I thought and as my class was told many times that it’s important to listen to instructions, especially during labs. For wearing appropriate clothing and hair, I choose a clip art photo of a girl with a short sleeved shirt on and hair up. If you have long sleeves on a lab day or wear baggy clothes, if you don’t role up the sleeves they could drag into whatever you are experimenting with. Girls’ hair could obviously get in the way as well, if it’s out. I choose this rule because it seems obvious but I know many people sometimes forget. For my last rule I just added a picture of three kids doing an experiment. I decided on using this rule for my picture because it is beneficial to know what to do in an experiment. This rule relates to listening to the teacher but even if you seem like you’re listening, it’s important to actually pay attention and remember the procedure, not just base it off other people. This describes what I have done for my project.

Ways I want to improve are… I want to be more specific, if possible, the next time I do a project like this. I could also have spent more time on it. I think I did a good job for the most parts, but there were still some things I could have improved.
