Assignment 7 – Excel Graphing

Pie Graph:

This Pie graph represents the amount of time (minutes) I spend on 4 different apps just today. “Youtube” is used the most and “Outlook” is used the least. Through this Pie chart, I could clearly see the time spent on each app. It helps me keep track of how much time I’m spending on leisure activities. Now I know how much, I can really adjust how much more or how much less time I should give myself. Since it’s only been half a day, I’ve been using social media way too often, I am looking forwards to reduce the amount.

Bar Graph:

In this bar graph, we can see which months people have their birthdays on. It looks like (out of the people that I surveyed) most people’s birthdays are in February just like me and the least amount being May and August. Through this chart I could better understand my friends and families birthday months.

The survey I used to get the information:

Line Graph:

I based this line graph on the compound growth calculater. My initial contribution (starting bid? Money?) was $6000, the additional contibution was $100 and the contirbution fequency is set to weekly. I adjusted the rate of return to 8% and the compounding frequency is monthly. I set the growth time to 8 months and wait for it to calculate. In total, I earned $3885 because the total value of my investment is $9885.

Part 2: Reflection

  1. Give 3 reasons why you like this job (be specific):
    1. It has decent pay and good promotions
    2. You can work at home (my dad does) making it convenient to eat and use the washroom whenever you need.
    3. Pretty flexible schedule. One day you can work 3 hours and the next you can work 10. It’s all about getting the task you’re given done and completed on time. So it doesn’t matter how long you spend working on it each day.

  1. Is this job for you? Why or why not?

No because I am not interested in computer science. I already have another future planned for myself.

Digital literacy is used because you must learn coding skills and the different languages for each application. You must also learn the solutions, concepts and latest technological advancements.

  1. Explain the value of your TOKW experience in relation to your ideas about your plans after high school.

I know for a fact I will not be going down the same route as my dad because the environment just seems so depressing. I do not want to be sitting in front of a computer from 9-5 to earn a living. I want my life to be less restricted where I can do more than just one thing. I also want to make an impact on people directly.

Assignment 2 – Digital Referencing and Citations

I will be using MLA format for citations in this assignment.

Orange Shirt Day is a day for us to reflect on our past and acknowledge the lives that were lost in residential school. Why do we use an orange shirt to represent this important day? The orange shirt comes from a story told by Phyllis Webstad, who suffered a rough childhood in the residential schools. She was torn from her very own culture and freedom. Essentially, orange shirts symbolize the importance of indigenous children being isolated from cultures and their families. This day teaches us not to repeat the past, to learn from our mistakes, and to grow together.

Truth and reconciliation day is a day to honour all the indigenous children who were put through residential schools. It is a day for people to reflect on our past and to never repeat those mistakes. “reconciliation” meaning to restore a relationship and “truth” meaning to face reality, is what we must do. This day was established on March 9, 2023. Truth and Reconciliation officially became a federal statutory day on September 30th.

Call to action #63 aims to incorpoorate aboriginal history into the education system from k-12. Instead of neglecting the dark history of Canada and the things indigenous people had to go through, we would implement into our education to acknoledge this. This asignment will help me build my cultural knowldge and mutual respect because I am learning about their experiences, culture and language.

Part 5 video:

Kwikwetlem, also known as Coquitlam, is on the lower Fraser River and used to serve the ancestral home of the Coast Salish people for countless generations. However, the coquitlum today is going through lot’s of changes compared to its past. During the 1900s, the provincial government, in collaboration with a hydroelectric company, built a dam on the river. This dam has had a long term impact by obstructing the natural path of Sockeye salmon, preventing them from getting to their spawning areas for well over a century.

Part 6 Audio:

I learned that the Kwikwetlem Nation’s language hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ is currently endangered as there are less than 100 people who are fluent in this language. I also learned that hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ is known as a dialect of another language called Halkomelem. Halkomelem stems from the Coast Salish family. Additionally, the names in hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ carry insightful information about the land, passed on from one generation to the next, linking the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm people to their customs. The kʷikʷəƛ̓əm First Nation is putting in efforts to revive their traditional language within their community and across their ancestral territory.
