Q: Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe.

  1. use privacy settings to keep away strangers and spamming – be extra careful about publicly sharing and personal information
  2. use password keeper and change them often to be secured – make sure you choose a good password which does not include your        personal information such as your cellphone number, birth date, and your social insurance number. Also, do not save passwords so  even though you loose your phone no one can get through it
  3.  think before you post because if you post it is impossible to delete – make sure you do not write any hate comments, illegal activities,    and photos of your friends without their consent.

Q: What information did you learn that you would pass on to other students? How would you go about telling them?

I learned that our digital footprint is often used to keep information about us, such as nationality, religion or even personal email address. Information is gathered by using cookies, which are small files that websites store on computers after we first visit to website activity. Also, cookies allow us to keep items in a shopping cart, store preferences or login info and make suggestions based on our location or website visits. In addition, digital footprint can be useful, but on the other hand it can also be dangerous.

Everything you post online also goes to your digital footprint. This includes YouTube videos, blogs and videos or pictures shared on social media sites. It’s important to keep in mind that once it’s online, it will be there forever.

Therefore, we should use privacy settings to keep away strangers and spamming, use password keeper to change the password often. Also, think before posting because once we post it, it is impossible to delete.

I would go about posting this information to my social media so I can alert other people and they can also share my post to expand the influence so it warns many people.

Reflection Paragraph

During this assignment, I realized that I have strengths in researching and organizing the data. I enjoyed this experience, because it was very convenient since I could do it any time and anyplace. Also, it was meaningful that I got to share how dangerous digital footprint can be. Sometimes, I found this assignment difficult. For example, when I first got this assignment, I had hard time understanding and building my blog so i could not right down enough information for each question. I think I have improved the ability to detect bias in a source since the assignment was about social media, and I thought a lot of information on social media was not trustworthy and informal. Therefore, I believe that many sources on the internet are biased. Overall, through this assignment, I learned more about myself, family, and culture by writing an autobiography on the blog and how to use social media efficiently and safely for personal footprint which can affect one’s future.

  1. You have done a good job constructing your page and have integrated media and text quite well. A mark was deducted because you didn’t include an image that is meaningful to you, and an explanation of why you chose it. 4/5
