Part 2: Reflections
the meaning of orange shirt day and truth and reconciliation day is to remember and honor the strength, the dignity and advocacy the survivors had of the Canadian residential schools. Also to honor the kids that were takin from their families and who never returned home. I learned that their progress is its going low not many are completed. this connects by telling me what we still have to do to repair what has happened from the residential schools. i think call to action 63 is a good thing, i would hope to maintain a good education system. making the school more inclusive and equal but also making learning fun for kids is a good thing. no kids would like to learn if their not getting provided with resources they need to learn. Hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ is a first nation language and i learned that it is a endangered language because there’s only around 100 fluent speakers in the world. i saw the band play for the assembly and i thought it went really good and the performers were really good. i learned that the last residential school was closed in 1996, that was not that long ago and i find that crazy to think about. for residential school kids had to shave their head and not show any of their culture including wearing traditional clothing, the kids could not speak their language and had to speak English or French sometimes. learning all this in the school assembly on September 30th i made sure i wore orange to remember the kids that had to go through all this at a very young age.
