3 tips for Goggling/Online searching:
Tip 1: How to search for an exact phrase or quote
In one of my classes I had last year It asked me too find a powerful quote and who wrote it. I knew which one I wanted, but I didn’t know who wrote it. I typed it into goggle with quotation marks to narrow it down. And it gave me my answer.Tip 2: How to exclude a term from search results
If you are looking to make sure you get the correct answer you are searching for then just place a PPT to eliminate unwanted results. So if I was searching for power points on climate change than I would also type PPT.
Tip 3: How to search phrases/quotes with missing words
There was a phrase in one my favourite books “Emma in the night” I just didn’t know the whole quote form the book. The phrase was something like “Maybe there’s *Something something* between wanting and needing”. So what I did was typed in most of the quote and the words I didn’t know I used * as a place holder.
Reliability of information:
When you are searching things up on the internet There are a ton for sources and there are a lot of their information, but there are ways to make sure that their information is true.
- One way is check when the website was last updated. And look if the information is all up to date. You should defiantly do this for science and social studies because the information and facts are always being charged and altered.
- Also to find out who wrote it, so the information isn’t biased to any opinion. You could take notes form someone that is an expert in the field you are researching.
- You should definitely make sure the information makes sense with your project. Don’t use facts that don’t flow and have no relevance to the project. Take information that suits your topic.
- Another way is to look at the accuracy of the website. So what you can do is visit other websites to see if their information matches theirs.
- You should also check the websites goals/propose because some writers write some websites as a joke, and taking that information would not be good. Use websites that meet your topic.
