Core Competencies Reflection

Here is evidence that I can… collaborate, teach, be considerate to others, discuss, contribute to class discussion, explain, justify, share ideas, etc.

Core Competency: __Emily Harris_____Communication____Microbeads_________

Our microbeads video was pulled together very well in my opinion. Anika and I did all the research while Kya was away. When she got back Kya and I worked on the script and all three of us filmed together during lunches and the given time during class. We filmed on my phone and sent all the clips to Anika who put them together. I feel that our communication was very good, but I could’ve been even better if Kya didn’t go away. We shared our ideas and took each other’s advice. As well we collaborated and used all of our ideas and if we disagreed we would compromise.

Ways I want to improve are…

Ways we could of improved are by working a bit harder during class time to complete our project rather than fooling around a bit. We also could’ve tried to improve the audio and have all of us talk rather than just Kya.

Woodbug Lab

Here is evidence that I can…work effectively in a group, support others in my classroom, advocate for others, take risks to suggest ideas, accommodate alternate perspectives, appreciate and respect diversity in my class and community, etc.

Core Competency: _______Social Responsibility____________

For the wood bug lab I thought that I was very aware of my surroundings and helped out others in this lab. My group worked very well together, and when there was a disagreement we would compromise and solve it. In my group we mostly all contributed to supplying products for our experiments and we all came in during flex to set up. I thought that this project was very interesting ad fun in the way we got to pick our experiments and run them on our own. It was the first real lab I had ever done and it was really cool to see the wood bug’s different reactions to the temperatures of water. In the hot water, they almost had a seizure like movement when placed in the water. In the cold water, they tried getting out of the container and a few even managed to crawled out. And in the room temperature water they just sank to the bottom and crawled around.

Ways I want to improve are…

Ways that we could improve next time, could be by bringing in wood bugs that are all the same age and size, so we aren’t putting babies in hot water and old wood bugs in cold water. Also, to have more bugs would’ve been easier to distribute instead of letting the five we had dry out in-between experiments.
