Take Your Child To Work Day

My first two months at Heritage Woods were like a rollercoaster ride. I felt scared, excited, sad, and happy all at the same time. I thought high school would be very different than it turned out to be, I was expecting it to be lot worse, but luckily it’s not that bad.

At first, I was very disappointed because I had no classes with any of my friends but I realized that even if I was with all of my friends it’s for the better because I would get distracted anyways. It also gave me the opportunity to make many new friends in the classes that I have this semester.

If I were to give advice to a future high schooler I would say the following, this one seems silly but is very important if you want to get to your classes on time. When walking to your classes stay to the sides of the hallways. This is very important because most kids in grade nine are a lot smaller than the older grades and it is very easy to get sucked into the crowd. It is critical to get to your classes on time because if you are constantly late, it will eventually effect your mark.Related image

Another piece of advice I have is to keep on top of your work. It is very easy to fall behind in high school and it is hard to catch up if you aren’t doing your homework and going in for help. Flex time is actually very useful if you use it properly. This semester I have two acedemics and two fitness courses. I usually spend my flex times going into my academic classes and finishing any homework I didn’t do or had a question about.

Finally, my last piece of advice is to have fun and make lots of new friends. Coming into high school, I felt kind of out of place and I felt really shy and alone because I didn’t have any classes with my friends. But once I came out of my shell and started getting involved with band, and started talking to classmates, I started to form friendships and bond with new people I would have never imagined being friends with. High school isn’t as hard as people make it seem but once you get through the first couple of weeks it is actually really fun!                    Image result for fun
