My name is Emma and I will be talking about my digital foot print. When I googled myself, not much relating to me came up. The only thing that I recognized was a picture of my instagram profile picture.
I think that having a clean digital footprint is very important because it could affect your future. When you apply for a job, and even university, they most often will search up your name. Many picture or tweets that you have posted will show up and they will see it. If you posted anything that you would want them to see, they will surely find it and if it is bad they might not hire you or accept you into the school. For example if they are deciding between you and someone else and they have found a post of you with drugs or alcohol, they would want you representing them so they would choose someone else. Another example is if there is many pictures of you partying, universities might not want you to be apart of their school. Even if you have deleted the photo, it is still out on the internet and stored into the app’s files. Additionally, they could see photos that you are tagged to by your friends, so if you friends tagged you in a post of you doing something bad, they will see.
One strategy I would give to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe is to always think before you post. I would say that if you do not want your grandma to see it, then do not post it. You should think to yourself if it is something that will affect your future or not. Another strategy is to change your passwords every month, so your accounts are more safe and they are less likely to get hacked, because if they are you do not know what they would do with your account and if the hacker could post anything. Another strategy is to always make sure that your friends know not to post anything of you that you do not think would be good for your digital footprint, because the aforementioned statement above, when people search you they could see tagged photos. Also, it would be wise to keep your accounts on private so you can get a say of who follows you, sop you can know that you trust your followers.
I have learned that everything you post makes a a difference, and could essentially affect your future. Hence why you should always think before you post. I have learned that even if you delete a post, it is still floating around on the internet. You are in charge of your own digital footprint, you decide what your social media reputation is and what employers will see when they google you. I think that it is important to spread the word about how to keep a clean digital footprint, and how to have a good representation for yourself for now, and in the future.
