This year I am in grade 10 English and hoping to expand off of my English 9 studies. I want to learn more about the language of Shakespeare and poetry. I enjoyed writing poetry and using the different devices to help advance my current skills from last year. This year I was wanting to do more advanced poetry with new words and more professional writing techniques. By learning this, I want to advance my essay writing to make it appear more professional and presentable for this class as well and my future teachers. Another thing that I was interested in learning were controversies. I’ve never had to much experience with with it and not completely sure what it is either. I’d like to come out of English understanding what it is and how I can do it. From the Video we watched today about “The changing English language”, I am wanting to learn more about the overall language and its development until now. I was thinking this may have a connection with the themes we were given about “Identity, changing Canadian, and global citizen.” However that’s my guess. I enjoy English overall as a subject so to learn anything I don’t know I would like to come out of English with. I don’t read as often as I should, so to come out of English with more knowledge about what kind of books I enjoy and my level of reading and writing would personally be great for me! We completed a couple of essays last year and to be able to do more and being able to build a proper structure for it with more confidence again would be helpful for the future and present. Continuing with the topics of essays, I would like to learn more about quoting and labeling books, videos, and other works into my essay properly and how to use it to my advantage. I was quite attached to the short stories and the possible hidden meanings and what the story represents. Breaking them down and understanding them was fun for me last year. These are all the things I want to come out of English with!
