My Digital Footprint

A digital Footprint is the mark you’ve left on the internet and how people can find and/or see you online. I looked though the internet, images, and videos to find my digital footprint, to come to a conclusion I don’t have a big one. I couldn’t find anything, which is a good thing. It means I don’t post or say anything that’s gone into the public for strangers to see and view me as. I’m not exposed to the world and I’ve done a good job keeping my identity a secret for only my friends and family to see. As I hoped my footprint to be.

A digital footprint is what and how you’ve shown yourself online. It could easily effect your future such as, your job, the collage or university you get into, and what kind of friends you could have or made. Teachers or bosses may check your social media to see what you’ve posted and if you’re responsible enough to be accepted into what it is your goal is. If you’ve been irresponsible or have posted bad choices you may not be able to get in the school or get the job you want. People may see you differently to what you are online compared to a face to face conversation and this could  be good or bad. If you have a good reputation you have a better chance of making friends and showing responsibility you’ll be someone the school or boss will want to hire.

There are many different ways you can keep your digital footprint safe and protected from harm in both social media and online. If you have a personal account on any sort of social media such as Instagram, twitter, or Facebook you could make it private so only your friends and family could see what you post compared to strangers around the world. The privacy settings can always change depending what others tag or post you in, and there are lots of people who hack accounts on the media and can easily find you, so changing your password every month or so could make it safer to use. Not all your passwords should be the same on all your accounts and changing it will limit the possibility of the dangers. Having a strong password with letters and numbers that you can remember without needing to write it down is a strong and good thing to have. Always think before you post and not to give out any personal information, which could be used against you in the future, will help secure and keep your digital footprint safe.

When you’re posting things online and taking pictures of your life, it’s very important to be safe and think about what you’re doing before you say anything online. If I was going to tell someone what I’ve learned it’s to make sure your privacy settings are as secure as they could be and to not be careless with your reputation online. Everything on the media could effect your future in work and in schools so it’s good to be cautious. Telling people about what’s going on in your life that’s personal and private through face to face conversations is good for less of a chance for information you don’t want out around the internet floating around. Any thing you post or say will always be out there and there’s nothing you can do to stop it. I would tell my family or friends this in reality and not though the phone or social media to show the seriousness and to be safe about their and my own future.
