Digital Footprint Reflection

  1. How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities? Give at least two examples.

If I myself or someone else puts something negative about me on the internet it could give me a bad reputation and make them not want to hire me because of that. Let’s say if I put some racist comments on my twitter account (I do not have one) the people who oversee finding someone to hire are going to say “we can’t hire her, we don’t want someone who is racist and can put a bad image of our company out there.” If you put a bad image of yourself out there, the people who you are looking to get a job with will only see that inappropriate image. Even if you are perfect for the job they only need that one image or post to turn you down. They might even bring it up in an interview and ask what’s that all about? Then you’ll be caught off guard and won’t know what to say.

  1. Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe.

One thing that you could do is think the five p’s. Is this putting out a positive feeling, am I hurting or a fending anyone by doing this? Make sure that you have permission from the person you are posting a picture of or are talking about. Don’t have a profile that shares too much personal information about yourself. Never share any private information like passwords. And lastly, protect yourself or a friend if something bad is happening and tell an adult.

  1. What information did you learn that you would pass on to other students? How would you go about telling them?

If I was talking to someone younger or the same age I would tell them never to post anything that you wouldn’t want your parents or even grandparents to see. If you do see something that you think is not right or shouldn’t have ever been posted by someone you know, go talk you an adult about it because it’s most likely that they can help you in the situation. Also, if you don’t know them report it, lots of social media platforms now let you report something if it seems inappropriate.
