American Revolution project

The Core Competency that I will be focusing on for this project will be Creative Thinking. I believe that my group and I have thoroughly shown this competency through out this project by helping each other think of new and fun ideas. We all discussed about what we can do and what would be entertaining. What we first did to help create this project, was make a story board. A story board is something that breaks down each shot in a film.

  • Each shot has two or more lines from the song/skit
  • The shot was matched with the line
  • On the story board each shot has a description

The story board helped us know exactly what we needed to do. Through out the project we made changes to help improve it. Most of the scenes we did were all about timing. What we did to help that was play the music while we are filming, so we can lip sync perfectly in line with the audio that will be playing!

The other things that required creativity, was where we were going to film and what props we were going to use. When we did our filming the first few shots were at school. After that we went to a place that had a pool over the weekend. The pool was a good aspect of the film because it represented the “ocean”. It helped us film our boat scene and tea dumping scene.

For this film we had to make lots of arts and crafts to help us do specific scenes for our project. For example:

  • The boat shot (card board paddles)
  • The dumping shot + One of the dancing shot (card board box)
  • The tax shot (paper)
  • The east Indian company shot (Checkers)
  • The 1773 shot (paper)

Before we filmed anything (when we were at the place with the pool), we built most of the props for the video. The main things we used were card board, paper, glue gun and paint. We used scissors to help us shape our objects and make it look like what we were creating it into. Here are the ways we made a few of our props:

the tea box was hot glued back together, had paper towels glued to it with the same colour tone, and painted the word tea in black paint. For the tax scene we cut out a crown and cut out “money” to visualize what the words were saying in the song. We also made card board paddles, by cutting out pieces from our own card board and hot glued it together. This shows creativity because we were creating our own things to make our scenes better. Without these props people wouldn’t of understood what would be happening the video.

The thing that I believe should be improved is the editing. We only had two days to edit the video and we were only able to edit it at school. Because of that, the video had quite a few errors. We weren’t able to do everything we wanted to with the video and some of the timing was off. For instance putting in effects, putting in extra scenes, or making sure the lip syncing is in line. Next time we will look ahead and see how much time we have for a project. How I will do that is by:

  • Seeing how many days I have in total
  • find out the due date right away
  • plan out when to do what

This project gave me a better understanding of making sure that I have the right amount of time and how well I can use it. For the most part my group and I conclude that we did a very good job overall and that we will keep up the good work.

Thank you for reading!

Industrial Revolution Invention Project

My Reflection

I believe that the competency that I demonstrated best in this project is Critical thinking. The reason why I think this is because during this project I had to figure out how to get through many difficulties. One of the few struggles was, how I was going to make this invention. My partner and I wanted to make somethings that was new and realistic. However, it was extremely hard to create something new. So, we got something that was already invented and improved it. We made sure that the idea was intriguing and useful. What we made is an easier and transportable water bottle water filter. This is critical thinking because we had to use our heads to evaluate a good sale. Here are a few other reasons:

  • We had to think about what people want
  • We had to think about if it was physically possible to make
  • How to improve something that was already invented

The other thing that required critical thinking was how we were going to get people to come to our market. My partner and I knew that the more photos and the less words shown will appeal to more people. We knew that if we were to have people come to our market, we had to look more welcoming, have a good-looking poster, and have lots of information.

  • More welcoming = more people
  • Good poster = catches more eyes
  • Lots of information = more intriguing

When we had someone come over, we would explain what our product is and how to use it. After that we explained how our product can be something you would want to buy. If anyone wanted further information, we would show the price of the of our product and how we came up with it. This validates critical thinking because we had to get into the minds of what people want and need.

One of the things I needed to improve on was figuring out an invention sooner. Both me and my partner couldn’t decide on what we wanted to do. Because of that it took a lot of our time that we needed to make the project. That caused us work very last minute. What caused us to take longer was:

  • We over thought things
  • We would just sit in silence trying to think of an idea
  • Didn’t ask for help

Now that we have learned our mistakes, in the future we will ask for help when needed and not over think things. We will find many ways to create something new either then just sitting there. This project had a lot of critical thinking needed for the job which is why it was best to have partner to help you out. we established a good mark and great feedback. We are planning to continue to work hard and learn more ways to improve to better our forthcoming grades.
