What I Want To Learn In English 10

This year, my goal is to improve as a writer and to become more open-minded to unfamiliar genres.  I have always focused on discovering ways to better my writing and how I can engage the reader.  I enjoy writing short stories because it gives me the opportunity to use advanced vocabulary and my imagination to create a storyline.  I use several brainstorm methods such as webs and point form notes, to ensure I know what direction I want the story to go.  Another thing that I enjoy is essay writing.  It helps me to improve my writing structure and to convey my topic in a formal way.  Something I hope to improve on is topic sentences.  I struggle with figuring out how to smoothly mention everything that I will be discussing in one sentence.  I also want to further my skills when writing a conclusion paragraph.  Reflecting on what I have written and constructing a strong ending sentence is something I know has room for improvement.  I can achieve this by looking at key components of a good conclusion and apply it to my writing.  One of my strengths is being thorough, by providing supporting information and examples in my body paragraphs.  I like to be informative so the reader has enough information to fully understand what I am talking about.  Another goal I have is to willingly read in my spare time.  I am picky with my book choices because I enjoy stories that I can relate to on some level.  When the plot is unrealistic, I find it difficult to connect with the story and I become no longer engaged.  I am open to reading mystery books, as I feel the suspense of the unknown will draw me in.  Horror books have also caught my attention, as I can imagine frightening scenarios playing out in my head.  The horrifying factor will leave me wanting more.

I am confident in my reading and writing abilities, and I understand what areas I need to direct my focus towards.  By asking questions and having continuous practice, I know I can achieve my goals.  This will allow me to have more confidence in my english skills, so I can take my knowledge to the next step in the following years.
