Take Your Kid To Work Day 2019

The Interview

Name of your host: Elsa Escobedo                Relationship to you: Mother

  1. What is your job title?

Daycare teacher

  1. What is your job description?

Daycare teachers look after children that their parents work all day so they can’t look after them. We help teach the kids and also entertain them. We also encourage lots of learning.

  1. What are the duties and/or tasks you perform at your job?

The duties of being a Daycare teacher follow as teaching the children entertaining them and helping with feeding and socializing.

  1. What qualifications do you have for this job in the following areas:

  1. a) Training? If you want to be a daycare teacher you have to take a first aid course and pass.

  1. b) Education? Have to take early childhood education course and earn a certificate.

  1. c) Experience? You have to have Experience with working with kids such as baby sitting or simply if you are a mother

  1. d) Skills or Attributes? To be a daycare teacher you have to be very patient and very kind. You need to be patient because if a kid starts crying and it irritates you, you can’t just run out the door you would have to calm the child down and help him/her with their problem

  1. What are some of the things you like about the job?

I really enjoy working with children. I would like teaching them because when I was younger I always wanted to become a teacher. Also caring for the children is very fun.

  1. What are some of the things you dislike about this job?

I don’t like that we have to take the kids to the park no matter what the weather is like. It is also very stressful changing all the children into their boots and gloves and outside clothing.

  1. How do you anticipate this job changing in the next 5 years or so?

I feel like in five years Daycares will be more popular because more and more parents will work. Day cares will get friendlier with technology and adapt it in some way.

Student Reflection:

  1. Give three reasons why you would like this job (be specific):

  1. I also like working with children so it would be fun working with them all day.
  2. I would enjoy the teaching aspect because I always thought being a teacher would be really fun
  3. I think it would also be really cool that I pretty much get to teach and entertain the future of our society.

  1. Give three reasons why you would not like this job (be specific):

  1. I would not like feeding the children and like changing their diapers because they can sometimes be dirty.
  2. I would feel like I would not have enough patience to come in everyday and tend to the children. Like if a kid starts crying you can’t just walk out the door because it’s annoying you would have to calm them down.
  3. Working with little children can be very stressful because they are very unpredictable and working at a daycare it would be like having 15 kids.

  1. Is this job for you? Why or why not?

I feel like this would not be a job for me. If I were to be any kind of teacher I would probably be like a middle school teacher because working with little kids is hard. I also do not have the right amount of patience for this job. I feel like I wouldn’t be like an amazing dad so I could not think of having 15 children to take care of.

  1. Explain the value of the TYKTW experience in relation to your ideas about your post-secondary (after high school) plans (education? training, travel, work?).

I feel that TYKTWD is a very good way for students like me to think ahead and plan career choices. I also think that schools should have more activities like this because it really gets a student to see what is like working in a work environment. It really gets students to see how people work each and every day.
