Cloning Poster – Self Reflection
While working on my Cloning Poster, there were many personal and core competency goals that it helped me achieve. One category I feel I excelled in was novelty and values. There are many possible bullet points that I covered when I worked on my poster. The first core competency I achieved was, “I can get new ideas or build on other peoples ideas, to create new things within the”. I worked on this core competency in this project by being able to ask Mrs. Hewitt, as well as other classmates, for constructive critism and ideas regarding my poster. I was able to generate ideas on my own and apply them to my poster, and when I was unable to formulate more ideas, I would seek help and build on ideas given to me by peers. The second core competency I used while working on this poster was, “I generate new ideas as I pursue my interests”. I used this core competency in abundance while working on my poster by being able to attempt to excecute a certain task regarding my poster, and while I preformed that task, I would generate ideas relating to my poster. One example of this core competency was when I was coming up with ideas for how to design the title. Once I chose to do the title in the red colouring and bold font, it lead me to generate another idea for the phrase that underlies the title, and how to colour and design it. The final core competency I feel I executed in this category is, ” I can develop a body of creative work over time in an area I’m interested in or passionate about”. This core competency was easily completed due to the fact that cloning is a topic that greatly interests me. I was able to create a unique, and creative poster relating to the endoresment of supporting cloning, because it is a topic that intrigues me and lead me to want to learn more about it.
Generating ideas is another core competency I feel I made progress in while working on my cloning poster. The first competency I achieved during this project is, “I deliberatly learn a lot about something so that I am able to generate new ideas or ideas just pop into my head”. When I was told we were working on a cloning poster endorsement, I became extremely excited because I have previously done lots of research and dug into the details of cloning. I also chose to learn a bit more about cloning and cloning propaganda techniques while working on this project to help me generate more ideas when working. One other competency I utilized while working on my cloning poster is, “I have deliberate strategies for quieting my conscious mind so that I can be more creative.” I was able to quiet my conscious mind while working at home by taking a break during working, and going to play video games for a while, before returning to my project to continue working. Taking a small break from working and calming my mind helped me flush out silly ideas. I was finally able to demonstrate my third core competency, “I build on others’ ideas and add new ideas of my own, or combine others ideas in new ways to create new things or solve straightforward problems” by using my sense of personal awareness and knowing when to be able to consider other peoples ideas. For example, the maple leaf and scientific approaches used in my poster were not ideas generated by just myself. I was in need of help, so I made my way to a peer and asked for assistance in filling the empty space behind my slogan. My peer help me build upon the idea of including a maple leaf with a heartbeat flowing through it, and the scientific facts. By collaborating with others around me, I was able to create a piece of work that included ideas and feedback from not just myself.
Though I was able to work towards completing many core competencies while working on this poster, there are always few areas for personal and mental improvement. I feel that there is room for me to improve in the category of developing ideas. The first core competency that I can improve in is,”I make my ideas work or change what I am doing”. This is one major area that I feel I can improve in. While I work, I sometimes have a tendency to stick to one idea, usually the first idea that popped into my head. Sometimes the problem with that mindset is that my ideas don’t always work, but I have not yet mastered this core competency so I can have a hard time changing what I am doing. One other goal I want to work towards for my next project is, “I use my experiences with various steps and attempts to direct my future work”. This one can apply to both good and bad moments when it comes to working on this previous project. My main goal is to be able to take my mistakes, or things that needed correction, and formulate a way to connect them to what I am doing in my next presentation. The final core competency I want to work on is, “I can usually make my ideas work within the constraints of a given form, problem, and materials if I keep playing with the”. This core competency ties into both the previous ones that I just discussed. For the majority of the time, I am able to eventually work out my ideas and involve them into my project, but sometimes I can’t. My goal is to master this competency so that whenever I have an idea that can be of potential value to my project, I will be able to use my skills and play with the idea so that it eventually works out.
Very well done. You have properly integrated your media into your blog and chosen a format which does an excellent job of presenting your assignment. All information clearly relates to the core competency you have chosen. You include several insightful supporting details and/or examples of how you demonstrated the competency.Your reflection is very organized with at least 3 well-constructed paragraphs which do an excellent job of communicating your ideas.
Your paragraphs use the language of the core competency to thoroughly describe how you addressed the core competency and how you plan to further apply it in the future.
You have considered your development and growth as a learner and the process by which this assignment has led you to this new understanding of your skills and abilities.
