About Me
Hi, my name is Isabella! I am a Grade 9 student at Heritage Woods Secondary. My parents are Chinese, but my mom immigrated to Canada about fifteen years ago. I am born in Vancouver, and so are my two younger siblings- an annoying brother, and an even more annoying sister. (But of course, I do love them.)
At my house, we speak Mandarin. But don’t worry! My whole family is fluent in English- with my dad just being a little slow.
In my free time, I like to read. I love reading!! My favourite books are… Well, there’re too many of them, so let’s not even talk about that. I also love writing. I am currently writing a novel based loosely upon my experiences at HWSS. I have only written the prologue but I am hoping to finish my novel by the time I graduate Grade 12.
My two main passions are music. Music is probably what I spent most of my life- so far- on. I play two musical instruments. Piano and bassoon. I have won first place in the Crescendo International Music Competition last year. I also play the principal bassoon for Coquitlam Youth Orchestra.
I also love photography. And that’s why I will be taking Photography 9 this semester at HWSS. I have set up an Instagram account just for my photos, and I post daily on it- mostly pictures of my two siblings who thankfully are cooperative models.
This is my favourite video on YouTube.

This video is a performance by Vienna Philharmonic playing “Scheherazade” by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov (the same composer who composed “Flight of the Bumblebee”). It was conducted by the Russian conductor, Maestro Valery Gergiev at the 2015 Salzburg Festival.
This is my favourite video- and Classical piece- because of its exceptionally well-conducted performance.
I once performed this piece with the Coquitlam Youth Orchestra and I was the one playing all the bassoon solos! I find that this video reminds me of the time we performed at Evergreen Cultural Centre for our year-end performance.
My favourite website is https://www.instagram.com/. It allows me to keep in touch with all of my friends, and I could talk to a lot of friends that I haven’t talked to in a long time to arrange for a time to meet and catch-up!
This may not be my exact favourite, but if there’s one thing that you need to know about me… It would just be the fact that I love looking at pictures of the galaxy.
But yes, this picture is my favourite amongst the many pictures that came up on Google when I searched for “galaxy”.
Hellgren, Heikki. Hackernoon, March 27, https://hackernoon.com/junior-developers-guide-to-galaxy-8c8e5108f495.
It’s hard to say which is my favourite quote. But after searching for quite a long time, I finally found the one.
This is my favourite quote because it teaches us to search for the bright side in even the darkest situations.
Isabella, Great work! You have done a very good job putting together your about me page and have integrated your media seamlessly onto your page. Your comments are thorough without being too revealing and indicate a good understanding of digital literacy.
