- What is your job title? electrician
- What is your job description? Maintenance electrician
- What are the duties and/or tasks you perform at your job?To maintain and repair electrical lighting and control systems as well as class room renovations in varies schools throughout the sd44 district.
- What qualifications do you have for this job in the following areas:
- training?Red seal trade certification in electrical and master electrician certification, training in lighting controls and automation, level one first aid certification.
- education? High school, post-secondary { BCIT} 4 year apprenticeship.
- experience? High end residential custom homes, renovations, commercial, institutional, industrial, installations and maintenance
- skills and attributes (personalqualities)? Trouble shooting, problem solving, leadership, safety awareness
- What are some of the things you like about the job?
Being able to help provide a safe and comfortable learning environment for all of the kids in the district. The friendly staff in the schools and my co workers.
- What are some of the things you dislike about this job
Occasionally having to work in confined spaces like attics and basements,
- How do you anticipate this job changing in the next 5 years or so?
I anticipate more adoption of alternative energy sources such as solar power and an more implementation of energy saving technologies and practices. This will then necessitate learning new systems, how they operate, are programmed and creating a maintenance plan for the new equipment.

You have to go in dusty small work space occasionally.
This job requires lots of handy work lifting heavy tools, loud machines etc.
Lots of driving from school to school.
Is this job for you? Why or whynot?
I don’t think this job is for me because you have to lift heavy tools and use large loud machines sometimes even working in confined spaces.

You can start to see the reality of how things will be when you have a job and have to work for your money too, it is also important to know what you will have to do even before you start working and the training and education you will need to do so.
