Core Competencies Reflection
Core Competency: Communication
For my paragraph, I preferred Communication, I was able to show these skills various times confidently. I mostly used Collaborate to plan, carry out, and review constructions and activities, I was able to work with others to achieve a common goal and I also did my share. For this particular project, we decided to make a newspaper to show our learning. My group, consisting of three people including me had a common goal. That goal was to achieve an A on this project. I did my share of the work by writing up two detailed articles for it and also making an ad for it. I think we worked very well as a group and managed to achieve the goal. The next point is I was able to take on roles and responsibilities in the group. I did this by telling my groupmates on what they should do for their share and had the responsibility of overseeing the overall progress of the project. The last point is I was able to summarize key ideas and identify the ways we agree. I showed this when I was writing one of my articles, I summarized key ideas at the end when I had to finish the article off.
For my second portion of Creative Thinking, I think I equally used Explain/recount and reflect on experiences and accomplishments as well. I was able to give, receive, and act on feedback. I showed this when one of my groupmates and I were working on our google doc for the rough draft, he asked if I could go over his writing and give him feedback. I later gave him feedback and was able to make his writing better. I also received many feedbacks and was able to act on them and change my share to a much better one. My second point was I was able to recount simple experiences and activities and tell something I learned. I did this many times during this time, I was able to recount old experiences and use those to make my share better. My last point is I was able to represent my learning and tell how it connects to my experiences and efforts. I did this by writing one article on the American’s perspective on the British coming oversea to take control, this showed my learning and it also gave another look at it from a different angle. My other article is on a reporter going undercover as a British loyalist, this also showed my learning and a look at it from a different angle.
One thing I believe my group and I could’ve done to make our project stand out from other groups more is we could’ve put in more effort into the pictures that were used in the newspaper. I believe this was the biggest flaw of our project since the newspaper was our main visual and visual can be very important since it sets the first impression. Another part we could’ve don’t better is making the ads more realistic, but it turned out it was harder than it turned out since there weren’t many ads back in the days and examples to get ideas from. But other than that, I think our group did extremely well and I hope it stands out from others.
