Take Your Kid To Work Day 2018

Alternate Assignment

Describe your first two months at Heritage Woods. Have your first two months met your expectations? Why or why not? List and describe in detail three pieces of advice that you might offer to students of your former middle school who are entering Heritage next year? (Include images to assist you in explaining your points.

Since the beginning of the year, I have increased my knowledge in many subjects. In tech ed, I learned how to 3d design and how to properly use the machines for woodwork. I learned about chemistry and what living things need in order to live in the Earth’s environment in science. I have become more active and athletic because of PE. In digital literacy, I learned how to create a stable digital footprint.

My first two months at Heritage Mountain have surpassed my expectations. I have learned how to manage my homework better and have become a better critical thinker. I enjoy having more independence in high school. My teachers are helpful and I have made many new friends. I’m looking forward to the rest of the school year. Here is my advice for students entering Heritage Woods next year.

3. Do Extracurricular Activities

Doing activities outside of school is important because it boosts self-esteem and academic performance. Do something you are passionate about or something that will help the environment. You will socialize with people that have the same interests as you and could create long-lasting friendships. Some extracurricular activities teach you important life skills such as leadership.

2. Take A Language Course

There are many benefits to taking a second language. You can develop better communication, memory and multitasking skills. Many colleges such as UBC require students to learn a second language. It can also help you become an employee for a job. Communicating with more than one culture can persuade more customers to come to your business.

1. Don’t Procrastinate On Homework

Procrastination is a major issue in high school. According to the American Psychological Association, “between 80 and 95 percent of college students procrastinate on their schoolwork”. Procrastinating on homework can cause anxiety and stress. It can also negatively impact your academic performance. You should finish your homework early because you won’t forget about it or get distracted by other things.  You will feel better about yourself after completing it.
