Core Competencies

Communication

Communication throughout projects and assignments is a very important skill to have. I think it is important to be able to summarize the point and show that you understand to the best of your ability. I like to show my learning effectively through posters or mind maps when trying to show a point. For myself, the easiest way to communicate with projects would be through creative posters or public speaking on a specific topic. I like to be able to share my ideas in an effective way by speaking to my class. When collaborating with others I like using mind maps to branch out everyone’s ideas and get them all down on paper. I think this is a good method because you see the layout of everyone’s thinking and where certain projects or assignments can go.

Thinking

Critical thinking is especially important in the judgemental world we live in today so the decisions you make can affect many. When hearing bogus news I always try to research it to double-check whether they are fibbing or not. Many times news stations will do this for publicity but it is up to the person you are to believe it or not. The advice I would give to a younger student is to double-check all the facts and for them to know that sometimes that shocking bit of information can be just a nasty rumour. When creatively thinking, something that gets my thoughts flowing is listening to music that relaxes me and lets me think my imagination through. A good tune can really relax my mind and get more creative ideas. When I hear about crazy places or things that people are doing it is always inspiring me to try new things. I think it is important to remember that life is just passing by and you have to take advantage of the fleeting moments.

Personal and Social

Personal and social are very important because they tie into both communicating and critical thinking. Some aspects that I value about my culture are the cuisine and family gatherings. My strengths as a learner I would say are being able to grasp new concepts and having a good attention span to learn for long periods of time. I also use my class time wisely and try my very best with projects. Whenever I am feeling discouraged about my work performance, I just take a deep breath and know that it could be worse and life goes on. I think its important to remember to try your best next time and in the end, it is what it is. My learning goals this year are to do well in my classes and try and receive lots of interesting information from my classes. I chose those goals to get the best out of my learning time here in high school and to take the information and somehow connect it to future life skills. Whenever a peer is feeling sad I always try to be my optimistic self and tell them everything will be ok.

Romeo and Juliet mask project

For this mask project, I used my creative thinking to represent Juliet the best I could. I did this by researching the symbolism and re-reading sections of the book to find details to symbolize to the delicate character. I glued on artificial roses to show her beauty and she is referred to as one. In conclusion I represented this mask project to the best I could to show my creative and artistic skills.

Shoe Project

Explanation:

The character represented by my shoe is Lindy. I chose a fun looking party pump because Lindy herself was a crazy party girl. The colours I picked are bright shades to represent the wild, outgoing, and rambunctious character. The shoe itself is red like the cloud of red hair that she proudly flaunted. This intense crimson colour could also represent the cruel side of her and how she mistreated her children. The golden tiara and the Wonder woman costume point to the fact that she always wanted to dress up and impress people. She didn’t see this, of course, as she loved herself too much to see beyond her own desires, but these characteristics actually made her quite shallow and selfish. The image of a cigarette and mini alcohol bottle also show her party side. She was always the centre of attention and put more energy into the social scene and popularity than her own family. The flag image attached to the shoe signifies a changeable, unstable character, a person that can change direction at a gust of wind. The jeans on the lego person, the suede fringe around the shoe, and the guitar show how she saw herself as a musician. This was also one of her many fashion statements. She definitely held onto this image and the suede seven-inch fringe jacket and the tight jeans make it to the cover of her first (and only) music CD. The mirror and the blue eyes represent how vain and self-centred she was. She was a beautiful woman and most likely captured the hearts of many men while she remained cold-hearted and insensitive. The whistle on the shoe can represent just how cruel and short-tempered she was. Every time she was frustrated, impatient, or stressed she would blow the whistle in Dec or Bernard’s face, instead of communicating her issues. The image of the black convertible with a white interior represents that once she decided to abandon her family, she drove away in that exact car. She used to dream that her life with Bernard would be like that car, fast, awe-inspiring, and luxurious. Instead, it became her escape, an exit to the life in the fast lane, always on the edge. She did not want to deal with the monotonous, tiresome family life so she fled. The lego warrior on a horse symbolizes her failed marriage and shows what her husband Bernard has become as a result of a broken heart. Lastly, the heart with an arrow piercing through it represents Dec’s heart after all this drama. Her running away and being a horrible person altogether really scarred Dec but in the end made him a stronger person, a person who is at peace with his past and a clear vision of his path.

Reflection:

For this assignment, I used the skill of creative thinking. I had to pick what items would best represent the character and their skills. I had to use more than just information on what they looked like, I had to think deeply about how I could represent some of their emotions. For example to represent what Lindy looked like I put a tiara to symbolize how she always wanted to impress people and be a princess. To represent their emotions one thing I did was put a heart with an arrow through it to show how Dec felt after Lindy left their family abruptly.

Montreal Riots Project

For this project, I used Creative thinking in the aspects of creating a radio show clip. I used creative thinking when I had to pick interesting radio music for the intro. I had to hand pluck music that would go with the theme of our radio show. I also had to creatively think what would be good content for the 1800s and what people would actually want to tune into, back then. I also had to think about how to make a format that sounded like a radio show and use special effects and music to make it sound like it really was the 1800s.

English Civil War Mini Project

Bill of rights

  1. If the current king breaks any rules of the Bill of Rights then the parliament decides whether the king should be assassinated or not.
  2. If the king attempts to imprison a civilian for no reason then the king will give that civilian a gift of 1000 euros.

Selfie:

I think in the first painting of Cronwell he doesn’t care anymore what people think of him. You can see that his face isn’t polished out. You can see his warts and his wrinkles. He also looks more serious so it’s not a portrait that he painted for fun. In the second painting of Charles, he looks more arrogant and it looks like he’s trying to put himself on a higher pedestal. You can also see someone in the back handing him something as if he had someone doing everything for him. He may be also made this painting look more macho so that would attract the ladies.

I chose this image basing it off my second law. You can see a now happy peasant because the king tried to imprison him but it didn’t work. instead, he got a thousand euros, back then that was a lot, almost equivalent to $1,000,000 today. We emphasized this image by making the king wear a sombrero hat as a crown and I had a $5 bill as the 1000 euros. I think this law is a good idea because it happened many times that someone did something to disobey the king and he tried to imprison them for nothing. This would help more innocent people to not be sent to the jailhouse for no reason.

Core Competencies reflection:

Today I will be reflecting on creative thinking. I had to creative think in this project when designing my selfie. I had to be creative with how I would portray my selfie and how I would show the hidden messages. I think I did a good job with this as I had a crown and also a 5 dollar bill. I also had to think creatively when righting the 2 extra rules to the Bill of Rights. I had to think of something that also had s meaning to me.

Enviroment Video Project

Reflection:

For this reflection, I will be using creative thinking. I and my group had to think of a creative way to express our topic in a video. We used the classic whiteboard time-lapse video and I think it worked out pretty well. We had to think how to make it educational but also pretty fun. I think this video was a success creatively and it was very entertaining.

Reflection:

For this project, the core competencies ill be writing on is Creative Thinking. For this project, I and my group members had to think of an eye-catching poster that had just the right amount of information. I had to creatively think what kind of information to place on it and what would draw peoples attention.  Drawing their attention enough that the information wouldn’t bore them after a while. I had to imagine what format I good-looking poster would be and lastly how it would have an effect on other individuals.
