Core Competency Reflection:

During this assignment I mainly used creative thinking to find something I’m passionate about and turn it into a presentation. When it was my turn to present I knew that I couldn’t choose just any topic, it had to be one that really mattered to me. So, I picked an article about the multiple deaths of horses on a race track in California. I used this article as a platform to expand on the topic and talk more about horse abuse in the racing industry and not just what happened on this track. Since this was a topic that really resonates with me I went all out during my research. I tried generating ideas on how to make the presentation flow from talking about this track to horse abuse in general. To do this i noticed that I couldn’t really talk about the topics separately, I had to merge the two together to make sure the presentation went well. Having a project like this which gives you a lot of freedom is a great opportunity to choose something your passionate about and expand on it.

Core Competency Reflection:

I used communication by working with my partners to create a script that we were all satisfied with. We took into consideration each other’s ideas and opinions while putting this project together. I also used creative thinking by helping come up with some sound effects and a rap to further add to the podcast. Creative thinking was also used when I was trying to come up with a way to take all of our research and put it into an entertaining, funny and informative podcast. Another way i used creative thinking was when I was coming up with a script that I felt humorous, insightful and interesting. There were challenges in trying to get all the information represented in such a short amount of time and making sure that it was entertaining. Nevertheless, my group and i came up with creative ways to fix those problems like incorporating information into interviews. Over all I think that creative thinking was the most used core competency in this project because we used it to come up with and organize all the ideas we had for this podcast. I also used social responsibility when working with my partners to make sure that all of us were satisfied with the work that we were putting out. If we had any problems we resolved them peacefully and responsibly. Lastly we used critical thinking when analyzing and questioning our research and the websites that they came from.
