Communication:

When thinking about a core competency that makes the most noticeable difference in my learning the first one that comes to mind is communication. It allows us to get our ideas across to others, work cohesively, and ask for help. Good communication is essential for not only a presentation or project but even just things as basic as understanding a concept that you are being taught. For example, if you are having a hard time understanding the material you are being taught in class you need to communicate that to your teacher so they can help you get better. The same goes for group projects. If you are having problems collaborating with your peers on a project it may be due to lack of communication. By calmly talking through your issues with others you may be able to resolve them, or if not at least you’ve heard everyone’s opinions and you can learn to compromise. Furthermore, if you are presenting in class or at work later in life you need to have practiced your communication skills to be able to clearly get your ideas across. This will truly be important when one starts working in the future. There is a reason why there’s a saying that goes “communication is key”.

Creative Thinking.

Something really special about us as humans is our individuality and that no one thinks the same way. This is why creative thinking is such a cool and essential core competency. New and inventive ideas are what keeps the world moving forward and what helps us express ourselves. It may help you look at challenges from different perspectives and from that you can come up with different and unique solutions. It provides diversity in people’s work which is what leads to new and exciting things in the world. It also promotes our imagination which can greatly help us develop as individuals. When you think creatively you see many different sides to what may seem like a flat surface. By doing that our minds become open to more possibilities and more learning with all kinds of different outcomes. Creativity is limitless which is what makes it so special. You’ll never know what you’re capable of unless you take the time to flex your creative muscles. This could result in a new way of presenting research that is more interesting, a fun inventive way of expressing your talents or even coming up with something new that changes the world.

Critical thinking:

Critical thinking helps us determine the importance and relevance of all things that surround us. By taking into account the information we gather and analyzing it carefully we can begin to form opinions. This is a very important core competency because it teaches us to use our logic and judgment skills very well. Critical thinking can be used in mundane ways such as choosing what assignments to do based on deadlines or forming an argument based on tons of research. Being able to logically think and make decisions calmly will get one very far in life. You cannot live a single day without having to make a choice, and before any reasonable person makes a choice they should stop and think.

Core Competency:

During this assignment I think I used a lot of critical thinking. I was analyzing the data of the different ways to search. I was also looking closely at how to tell a good website for research apart from a bad website. I questioned the credibility of some websites and data. I was social as well because of my PLN. It helped me communicate and branch out. Before this assignment I was unaware that I was even in a PLN and now I feel so much more connected to people online that help me with my tasks. I was creative with the design of my piktochart and it was my first time making one. I’ll be sure to use an infographic in my future projects as well because i think it is an interesting way to display research.
