Canadian Identity

This was our first project in Social Studies 10. In a group of 2-4 people, we had to make a presentation that represented our views of Canadian identity like what symbols people usually think of when Canada is mentioned, or how do we perceive ourselves? And then discuss what issues the nation is facing and how do they affect our identity as Canadians. This project has helped me understand more about our significant colour, about how special we are and what has built up this unique country- a country that has a red maple in the centre of their flag, or a country with the beaver as their official symbol. At the same time, I became more aware of the issues our society is having. Major issues like regionalism, multiculturalism or French-English relations could be very controversial but they have helped to shape our identity as a country. For example, Canada’s well-known reputation of being very accepting of immigrants and their cultures makes our country a complete diverse place. During this project, I got to see lots of new information and facts that I had never known before. From them, I understood more about our beloved nation.
