Digital Footprint 2017
My digital footprint-
I only have two social media accounts. One is Instagram which I got earlier this year and the other is Snapchat which I have had for a bit over a year and a half. When I google searched my name nothing came up so I searched my Instagram username. Again nothing came up and there were also no photos under images.
How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities? Give at least two examples. –
Your digital footprint can affect you in good and bad ways. They are used by future employers, universities, and colleges to see what you have done on the internet. They usually google search your name and look into what digital footprint you have left behind. If you have acted acceptably and you post things about working, volunteering, and donating it shows who you are and all the good things you have done. It helps the people in higher places see if you are involved in your community, spending your time wisely, reliable, and sensible. If you leave a bad digital foot print behind, you are less likely to be employed or accepted into the job, university, or college you want. It limits your options of your future. Employers, universities, and colleges want the best people they can get to be employed or enrolled with them. If they think you are unacceptable for the place you will not be chosen.
Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe. –
1.Have your accounts set on private
All social media should have this option. It would be found under settings. This way only the people you want to see what you share can. It also stops random people from seeing your stuff and any pictures of you spreading.
2.Don’t over share
You should always double check what you want to post if it is appropriate. Photos of you at parties or doing silly things are not the best for your future employers to see. You shouldn’t share anything that you don’t want everyone to be able to see. The best way to be in control of your digital footprint is to look at what you post before you post it or not post much at all.
3.Google yourself first
In the video they said you should google yourself before anyone else has the chance to. This makes sure you know what there is on the internet of you and lets you find out before anyone else can.
What information did you learn that you would pass on to other students? How would you go about telling them? –
I learnt that a lot of people don’t know what there is of themselves on the internet. I also learnt that everyone should know what there is on the internet of themselves by knowing what you post and what other people have posted of you. I would tell other student to watch what they put on the internet because it now has the power to change your future.
