As one of our main projects for the evolution unit, students were assigned to create a story about any animal that shows the evolution over time due to natural selection. The story could be made up, but have realistic text. My partner and I chose a Green Anole Lizard because we found their physical abilities to be quite interesting. To spice it up a bit, we wrote about the stickiness of toepads. Critical Thinking was used a lot in this project. This is because you had to make sure the storyline flows right and that there’s no inaccurate information. It was also important to not make evolution “too simple” and “too fast.” Creative Thinking was involved as we made up some of the parts in our story, such as sticky toe pads. Deciding on the right animal is also essential as your research flexibility depends on it. Lastly, Communication played a significant role, as well. Between my partner and me, we split up our tasks, such as writing and drawing, to make sure we both played our part in the project. Overall, this project gave me a better understanding of evolution and how a specific population with similar alleles may increase or decrease, leading to a new formation of species.
