Core Competencies Reflection

Core Competency: _______Critical Thinking_____________

I think I did well on the Biography of James Cook, I was focused on finding details about who he is, what he is doing, and why he is exploring to begin with. I put his early life in England and his passion about navigating. Then I added of few of his early voyages during the seven years’ war. He got a few assignments by some rulers to do some astronomy. He did a few voyages around the pacific which changed the world as we know it. When he was doing the third voyage, he was murdered by natives. It effected a lot of people because we would not be here in Vancouver if it wasn’t for them. I think a few people were interested about James Cook in this class, I was. But I added a lot of answers on what James Cook is about. I tried my hardest to research him and put lots of facts about him.

Ways I want to improve are…

For making the poster because I did not have the time to make a poster, but it does not really matter, it matters if you put a lot of information about the explorer and his life.

Reflection:

  • Social responsibility

As a Kodiak in high school, I learned how to work well with others. Helping out my partners is a big improvement after finishing middle school. I was glad I was sharing my ideas to the others, and I think I work well with everyone on audios, script, and planning. I probably should improve on editing the videos with my partners, but I understand my partner Kyle Vestal got it under control. I should respect other people on who they are and there personalities because sometimes, I always doubt other partners on how they treat assignments when I was in the first and second semester. When I was working with them, I was more confident we will work well together. I tried to sound like I was an anchorman and an enthusiastic voice actor. We all tried to get an A on this an assignment, but I am ready for a B or a C. I know My improvement should be trustworthy to my partners and classmates.

Effects of the arctic ice cap melting

Effects of the arctic ice cap melting

By Sebastian Tulai

A1. The arctic ice cap is the sea ice covering the arctic ocean. On summer day’s, parts of the ice cap melts into little pieces that drift away. But in the cold dark winter, the ice spreads out where the arctic ocean is, making it easy for animals to find food.

A2. The arctic ice cap is melting because of global warming. Humans pollute the earth by burning coal, gas, and oil. The burning of fossil fuel traps gases that cause the earths temperature to increase.

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_FXAS0iLMbvI/TMBqRUF_mRI/AAAAAAAAAAw/gWuZC3d6Wis/s1600/6+-+ice+caps.jpg
B1. With no ice cap, the arctic will be open for drilling for oil natural gas, and minerals.
B2.The melting of the arctic ice cap will not result to a sea level increase because the ice is already on the ocean. there for, the effects on the geosphere erosion will not be big.
B3. Because of the changes in climate, and more natural disasters, the erosion on the coastal areas will be impacted.

C1. If the arctic ice caps melts, the heat from the sun will get absorbed from the ocean instead of being reflected. Both the atmosphere and the oceans will get warmer, and that will affect ocean currents.

C2. The carbon dioxide trapped in the ice, will be released back in the atmosphere, resulting in increased greenhouse effect. Some studies suggest that when the ice cap melts, it will open up the area for plankton growth, which will trap more carbon dioxide.

C3.The melting ice caps will affect the balance of carbon dioxide and oxygen which affects the how plants will be able to produce oxygen.

https://adventuresofamoderndayflowerchild.files.wordpress.com/2013/04/nasa-arctic-ice-cap-melt.jpg

D1. Greenland ice sheets are close to the arctic ice cap. Greenland might soon melt as well if                  the ice caps disappear.

D2. The sea levels will rise, the oceans will get warmer, and the salinity of the ocean will decrease. All of these will affect the ocean currents, which in term will affect the climate.

D3.The sustainability of the Hydrosphere of the hydrosphere will be impacted with the sea level rise, salinity change.

E1. With no ice keeping the polar bears and seals safe, the animals might be exhausted from swimming and might drown. Polar bears need ice to catch seals for meals, 1/10 polar bears caught seals and succeeded.

E2. Aboriginal people need fish and seals to survive. The ice helps the humans not use there boats and can stay in one spot in the middle of the ocean, then they have to change the way they fish. If the ice disappears, some animals may not survive, and some other animals will adapt to the new environment. aboriginal people need to find a way to hunt.

E3. Animals need the ice to survive the extreme environment. Without the Ice caps, some of the animals will go extinct. because of the higher sea level, many coastal areas will flood, and people, animals, and plants will migrate.

F1. The melting ice caps will affect the geosphere, the atmosphere, the hydrosphere, and the biosphere one by one. For example, The hydrosphere will have sea level rise which will affect the erosion of the geosphere, which will affect the biosphere.

F2. It shows that a lot of problems will occur in the next few centuries with billions of people dealing with the heat and natural disasters. some say that a lot of bad stuff will happen to earth, starting with the arctic ice cap.

Core Competencies Reflection

Here is evidence that I can… collaborate, teach, be considerate to others, discuss, contribute to class discussion, explain, justify, share ideas, etc.

Core Competency: _______Communication_____________

I think of ways to add interesting facts on the assignment that could be understood by viewers. I add specific

details and tried to think of answers that could fit in each of the four spheres of earth in this science project.

Sometimes, I can share ideas to some classmates which could be helpful to them while they are working.

I tried to make my answer as clear as possible, so the teachers could see I was interested in doing the polar ice

cap melting project. I did as much sentences I could fit in with the questions, but maybe they were not enough

to put in each of the four spheres. I show myself as a hard worker but needs to improve on some sentences or

paragraphs, I also show that I am finding resources and facts then combine some it together.

Ways I want to improve are…

To try and be more specific on my answers and to be more clear on my assignment. I see what I did wrong,

then it will show that I will correct that mistake and see if I can not do that mistake again. I will also try and put

as much sentences as I can so I could get higher marks next time I have an important assignment in school.

Take your kid to work day 2018

Name of your host: Gabriela Tulai

Relationship to you: Mother

1. What is your job title?  homemaker (house engineer 😉

2. What is your job description? take care of the house and the people in it.

3. What are the duties and/or tasks you perform at your job? prepare meals, clean the house, drive/walk kids to school and other activities, set up appointments.

4. What qualifications do you have for this job in the following areas:
a) training?  3 kids and a husband
b) education? BSc. Computers, Certified Yoga teacher
c) experience?  life experience
d) skills and attributes (personal qualities)? good organizer, multi task oriented, outgoing, team player

5. What are some of the things you like about the job?  flexibility to organize your own agenda, spending time with my kids, teaching.

6. What are some of the things you dislike about this job? not earning money.

7. How do you anticipate this job changing in the next 5 years or so?  I don’t think the job will change a lot, however with kids growing; some duties might transfer on them to become independent and responsible. Also transition for me to a paid job is on the horizon.

Student Reflections:

1. Give three reasons why you would like this job (be specific):

a) I like it because there are no bosses.
b) No one has to work all the time doing this job, and there is no paperwork.
c) People look out for things when needed.

2. Give three reasons why you would not like this job (be specific):

a) If I only work at home, then I would not get any money.
b) I would have to clean parts of my house that I would never like to do.
c) That job is harder than I thought it would be.

3. Is this job for you? Why or why not?

No, I would like a different job so that I can earn a lot of money. I don’t know what job I want, but I want it to be a good job.

4. Explain the value of the TYKTW experience in relation to your ideas about your post-secondary (after high school) plans (education? training? travel? work?).

The experience of TYKTW shows that whoever works at home could sometimes think it can be really hard. I don’t think this job will help me in anyway for my future career, I never thought what my mom does is a real job, but I appreciate the fact that she does many things and sometimes there is a lot of pressure. I would not want to be a home maker but I it sounds interesting that you do something like that.

A Midsummer Nights dream Act 4 scene 1

Core competences

Communication:

I think I tried my best to know what I am saying to the crowd. I have tried my best to
memorize my script in Midsummer night dream. I tried to sound like the characters I was
playing in the play so the viewers will like the play. I was nervous to speak in front of people,
I was worried I would mess up one of my lines, but the play turned out great and we were all
proud of ourselves.

Creative and critical thinking:

For creative thinking, I tried to find some props that were good for me and my group. Some
of my props in the film were really good like my crown and shirt, but some I think needed
improvement like the wand, besides that I think I was really creative. For critical thinking, my
group agreed we need to practice with each other over the weekends. I was trying to have
my lines and props at the right place and time. I tried to stay serious and focused during
practices and the play.

Positive personal and cultural identity:

My personal strengths and abilities are having different voices in the play when I am plying
four different characters. Another one of my strengths and abilities is that I know how to
sound cheerful or confused at the right time at the play.

Social and Personal responsibilities:

My social responsibilities is that I should always help out my group when needed. I also
need to find the right props and background for my group. My personal responsibilities is
that I need to know my lines and to bring my props when needed.

Woodbug lab

Core Competencies Reflection
Core Competency: _______Communication_____________

I have tried working with my partner on what we were experimenting on our wood bugs. I worked as hard as I
I could do since this was my first science project in science nine. I tried putting as much as I could do. I tried
asking my partner for help, but he have done nothing to give me ideas what to put on the wood bug
experiment. I typed down some facts about what my and my partner noticed when we put scented sprays
around the habitat we made for the bugs. I think I deserved more marks then my partner because I tried to put
down facts and hypotheses about the experiment, but my partner did nothing.

Ways I want to improve are…
To add more detail and add more facts and notes about the wood bug experiment. I need to ask my partner to
help with the project instead of doing nothing. I could also improve on the experiment
because I do not think that the bugs are affected to scents around the habitat we made. I wish I could be
more interested next time we do it.

Identity Sway Essay

Houses need to be taken care of. Experiences shape people. Everyone has different opinions.
This will be about three topics. The first one is about how responsible I need to be this year. The next one is about my experiences from the past. And my last one is what I find interesting and what I enjoy. This is all about the power and identity of who I am.

My responsibility is taking care of my house, family, and myself. I clean up the rooms when they need cleaning. I babysit younger kids, and try hard to keep an eye on them to make sure if nothing bad happens. I try to be responsible to myself and my actions. I know what to do at the right place and time, like going to school; I am never late at any subjects I am learning about.

I have experienced lots of things in the past. I adventured to places around the world, I love that we go somewhere new in the winter I have never been before. The other thing that I have experienced too is extreme sports. I have done, skiing in Whistler, mountain biking on forest trails, I surfed at Hawaii, and I parasailed in Turkey.

http://brucemctague.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/be-interesting_003.png

www.thepersonalbrandingblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/interesting_and_interested.jpg

Outside of school, I am interested in lots of things that I have done or will do soon. I love going to the beach in the summer, and go to the mountains in the winter. Other activities I like are going outside on the weekends to be with friends or to go mountain biking. My favorite thing about mountain biking is that I practice easier trails so I can do the harder ones when I’m ready to go. The other things I like to do is to program, I used to go to programming class to learn how to make video games. It was kind of hard, but then I got used to it.

The reason why these three topics show my power is that I try my best to be a responsible, experienced, interested, mature teen. I hope I will do the right things this year in school and will make a difference. I also hope you respect me for who I am, and what I do in high school…

Core competences

Communication:

For my communication, I would like to say that I tried my best to write specific words on my essay. I am not too specific on any details about what we are doing, I try to be sure if I spelled the words correctly, but sometimes, I’m so close to get it right. And I try to learn which words I can put in my essay and to see if I say the right thing on the right topics.

Creative thinking:

I think that I made good identity’s which there all about me. I thought I was responsible for one reason; I took care after myself on stuff that happens in school. Experiences is another thing I like to put in my identity, I do go to interesting places, I got a chance to do stuff that others can’t do in school, and some experiences are scary for me too. And I got to say that I have lots of interests that I have to put in there, from being outside playing basketball, to being inside playing video games.

Critical Thinking:

I thought it was a hard decision on what I might put in my essay. Honestly, I hope we do an easier essay next time, so we can understand other stuff quite simple. I like it if this essay is a more creative essay so we can think outside the box. And I kept thinking what words I need to write for my essay.
