Reflection:

This lab wasn’t to hard to do but I had fun doing it with my teammates. It was an easy way to show our knowledge on the laws and ways of physics while collaborating together. Our hypothesis of when weight was added to our rotocopter, the time at which it took for the copter to fall decreased (fell faster) was correct. If I were to do this lab again I would be more exact with the placing of the weight (paper clips),more exact with the height at which the copter was dropped as well better time management. Over all I think this was a good lab to do.

Career Life Education projects

Reflection:

For one of the early assignments or projects in this class we were instructed through practice and preparation for a mock job interview. We had to dress the part, look professional and prepare possible questions the interviewers could ask. I have to admit I was quite nervous that I would mess the whole thing up, and finally when I did take my place with the interviewer I felt pretty good. I was asked about my passions and with that my mouth just started to run. I rambled on about horses and I guess what I said created a good impression because in every criteria box all that was written there was the word wow.

for an assignment later on in the semester, we did Youth Philanthropy Initiative (YPI). This was a pretty huge assignment marks wise, but I had such an awesome diverse team and I am so proud of how we did. We chose the charity Pacific Riding for Developing Abilities which is a therapeutic horse riding facility for those who have disabilities. Going to visit the charity was so amazing to see how they personalize to each client and being a horse person myself it was so amazing to see the beautiful nature of horses helping those who need it.

Habitable extrasolar planet video

response:

The questions of weather there are other planets, other habitable planets, and a second big bang occurring in the universe has fascinated me throughout my hole life. I love the sci-fi genera of futuristic societies, exploring space and other worlds, as well as the possibility of finding life outside of our planet. This was probably one of my favourite assignments to do as I got to do something that fascinates me and I am interested in learning about. I loved that we had free rein on this project as it gave us a lot of flexibility on our topic as well as our content. Something that I feel went well on this project was the equal amount of work my partner and I did on the project as well as our execution in conveying our topics, information, and theories. Something that could have gone better would have been how we dealt with our technological difficulties to avoid doing double the work. But in the end, I am quite proud of this project and I really enjoyed my time making it.

Novel Study: The Curious Incident of The Dog in The Nighttime.

Response

In this project, I wrote an extra chapter to the book, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, as well as a letter in the perspective of the father to the main character. Some things I think I did well would be how I stepped into the shoes of Cristopher – the main character – and really got inside his mind to wright a chapter through his eyes. For the letter I wrote in the perspective of Christopher’s father, I really tried to get a grip on his side of the story and get a sense of why he did what he did. I also tried to think about all the difficulties Christopher’s father had to endure with his son having a disability, Christopher’s mother leaving the two of them, hold down a job, making sure Christopher is supported in school, paying the bills, putting food on the table, and so on. Although what Christopher’s father did was wrong, I do think that there was more to the story and that he didn’t just kill the neighbors dog because he felt like it. Something I think I could have done better on this assignment was to make sure that every aspect of the criteria was fulfilled so that I could receive top marks and to make sure to title and name my documents on the computer so that it looks more professional.

“I am graffiti” inspired/related poem

Reflection

When we were given this assignment to write a 12 – 30 line poem inspired by one of two poems we had read in class. At first I had know idea what to write about but I eventually found a topic. I wrote this big long poem and then decided that I didn’t like it, so I wrote this one instead and I’m much more satisfied with it. This poem is about my struggles socially and really trying to put words to how I feel. something I think I did well with this poem would be my use of literary devices such as metaphors, imagery, etc. something I could improve would be my ability to think creatively about my topic. I have done most of my poems on similar dark topics so I think I could be a little braver and more adventurous to try and do something different, both with my poetry and my social struggles.

Reflection

While writing this poem I kind of veered off from what I initially wanted to right about, myself. My poem ended up being in the perspective of a sail boat from the time where people were just starting to explore across the seas. Something I think I did well was following the criteria and giving the boat–a non-living thing– feelings and emotions. Something I think I could have done better would have been to make my poem more personal and have thought more critically in the sense of using imagery and literary devices.

Arctic Ice Cap Project

Reflection

Something I think I did well on in this project was my ability to think critically about the subject I was writing about, as well as using a good amount of detail for each question. I did my best to give a deeply thought out answer for each of the questions asked and make sure that my answer actually answered the question. Something I think I could have done better would have been to have made my project more creative in the visual aspect, possibly by doing my project either in a power point or one of the other formats allowed. I chose a pretty basic format in my Sway but I think that by choosing that format, it made for a clean and precise looking document.

Industrial Revolution Brochure Project

Industrial Revolution Brochure

Reflection

During this project I had a few frustrating experiences when it came to formatting the brochure template I wanted to use. I ended up having to chose a different template and then it all finally worked out. Despite the minor challenges I faced in this project I actually found it quite interesting and I learned a great deal. I only wish that we were able to have either made our own template or just drawn it out on paper, but other than that I really enjoyed this project and found that it was a fun and creative way to do a school project. One thing I think I did well was having quality and detailed information that resulted with a clear point. one thing I think I would like to improve would be my ability’s to do a proper work cited with multiple sources.

Animal Farm Campaign

Campain Video

During this project I felt that it was quite rushed. I ended up doing the entire video myself at home even though all the group members were supposed to be in it. One of the other group members also picked up the slack and did the entire poster by themselves, but our third group member didn’t do very much except for helping to create the script and contributing ideas, which all three of us did as well. Something that also didn’t help was that I was away on one of the days we had to work on this project, it definitely set us back, but I guess that is just the way things go sometimes. Based on all the curve balls we were thrown, I think that one thing we did well was getting our project done in the small amount of time we had. Although the project could have had some much-needed improvement, I felt that it was still pretty good and convincing. Another thing that could have used work was our ‘speech’ after the video was played, we pretty much just improvised and at points that didn’t work out to well for us. Overall, the one thing I would have wanted to have done better would have been our time management and our organization, as well as paying better attention to criteria.

Rwandan Genocide Reflection

After watching both the presentation and the movie on the Rwandan genocide, I definitely have a better understanding of the atrocity that occurred on April 7th – July 14th, 1994. Hundreds of innocent people were murdered in this horrific event, men, women, and children alike. Having a Tutsi genocide survivor come and speak to the class, I found, was very educating as well as being quite sad to hear about. Neighbour murdered Neighbour just because they were different, just because they were Tutsi and Hutu. It’s not only sad to see what kind of pain and horrors humanity can bring to this world, but it is also quite scary. A human being is capable of so much, you can save lives, but you can also take them away. The Hutu army took advantage of their capabilities, they spread so much fear and burned this tragedy into the memory of so many, to many.

I can not begin to imagine the kind of pain survivors of the genocide had to endure, but I truly admire them for their strength. When Elizabeth (a genocide survivor) came to speak to the class, I was truly moved by how she was able to rise above her pain and start a beautiful charity that does a tremendous amount of good for Rwanda. Also, she did the one thing that hundreds couldn’t, she forgave. She was able to forgive the Hutu who hurt so many, and that takes and extremely big person to do something like that. Overall, I thought that this was a pretty heavy topic, but an important one at that. Every single person who experienced the terrors of the genocide deserves to be supported in every way possible, for they will have to live with those awful memories for the rest of their lives.
