Novel Study: The Curious Incident of The Dog in The Nighttime.

Response

In this project, I wrote an extra chapter to the book, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, as well as a letter in the perspective of the father to the main character. Some things I think I did well would be how I stepped into the shoes of Cristopher – the main character – and really got inside his mind to wright a chapter through his eyes. For the letter I wrote in the perspective of Christopher’s father, I really tried to get a grip on his side of the story and get a sense of why he did what he did. I also tried to think about all the difficulties Christopher’s father had to endure with his son having a disability, Christopher’s mother leaving the two of them, hold down a job, making sure Christopher is supported in school, paying the bills, putting food on the table, and so on. Although what Christopher’s father did was wrong, I do think that there was more to the story and that he didn’t just kill the neighbors dog because he felt like it. Something I think I could have done better on this assignment was to make sure that every aspect of the criteria was fulfilled so that I could receive top marks and to make sure to title and name my documents on the computer so that it looks more professional.

“I am graffiti” inspired/related poem

Reflection

When we were given this assignment to write a 12 – 30 line poem inspired by one of two poems we had read in class. At first I had know idea what to write about but I eventually found a topic. I wrote this big long poem and then decided that I didn’t like it, so I wrote this one instead and I’m much more satisfied with it. This poem is about my struggles socially and really trying to put words to how I feel. something I think I did well with this poem would be my use of literary devices such as metaphors, imagery, etc. something I could improve would be my ability to think creatively about my topic. I have done most of my poems on similar dark topics so I think I could be a little braver and more adventurous to try and do something different, both with my poetry and my social struggles.
