My dad oversees the operation and development of the graduate programs within the school of business at Capilano University, this includes two international post-baccalaureate programs and a master’s degree.

3. What are the duties and/or tasks you perform at your job?
On a daily basis my dad manages the questions and the queries of the two hundred international students, and thirty faculty members. He also oversees the growth and development of the business programs for international students.

4. What qualifications do you have for this job in the following areas:
a) training?
My dad didn’t have to have to take any training courses to get his job as it is based on your experience that makes you qualified for your position.

b) education?
An undergraduate and a master’s degree.

c) experience?
Minimum of five years teaching experience including teaching and program management for international students.

d) skills and attributes (personal qualities?)
For skills, you need strong communication abilities, effective conflict resolution skills, and you need to be able to balance the needs of multiple stake holders. For personal qualities, you need to have the ability to collaborate with others, have a strong work ethic, and have the ability to demonstrate a range of appropriate leadership skills.

The management of International post-secondary education is often time consuming and emotionally complex due to the number of academic and personal challenges the international students encounter.

7. How do you anticipate this job changing in the next 5 years or so?
As the international student market continues to grow, this position will evolve to reflect and accommodate the development of a broader range of academic program offerings.

Student Reflections:
1. Give three reasons why you would like this job (be specific):
a) I think I would I like this job because of how many different kinds of people I would have the opportunity to meet from all over the world.

b) I think I would like this job because I would get the opportunity to help students to not only grow as a person, but flourish in their future.

c) I think I would like this job because of how I would have to utilized my skills to solve different challenges.

Give three reasons why you would not like this job (be specific):
a) one reason why I would not like this job would be that every day will always bring a new challenge and or problem.

b) Another reason I wouldn’t like this job would be that although don’t know what I want to do with my life, I do know that I want to incorporate my passion for horses into it.

c) I wouldn’t like this job because of the all the commuting I would have to do, when the traffic is bad, it takes my dad over an hour just to get home.

2. Is this job for you? Why or why not?
This job is not for me because I just can’t see myself standing in a class room teaching something that I’m not exactly passionate about. Also, if I were to become a teacher of a sort, I would prefer to teach younger children. If I were to become a teacher, I would want to teach something that is equine based as I want to incorporate my passion for horses into my life one way or another.

3. Explain the value of the TYKTW experience in relation to your ideas about your post-secondary (after high school) plans (education?, training?, travel?, work?).
I think this experience was very useful in the sense of understanding what a post-secondary education might look and be like. I got to sit in on one of the design classes and see how a university course works at Capilano University, and maybe hold it open as one of my options for when I start to look for my post-secondary education. Overall, this experience took off a lot of pressure about what I’m going to do after high school and helped me to understand a bit more about what my future may look like.

Why I Remember

Why I Remember

Reflection

In this project I tried to dig up as much information as I could on my great, great grandfather who fought in World War II, Arthur Furby. Unfortunately, I was unable to find much information on him, so I was unable to make this project personal to my own history. But to do the best I could do, I tried to make all my information as close to my personal opinion as I could. One thing I could have done better would have been to have made my piktochart more creative and colorful, as well as to have thought more critically in my thinking for the information I have shown. One thing I did well was trying my hardest to make this project as personal as possible and to have quality, detailed information. Overall, I thought that doing the project in piktochart was a fun and creative way to do the assignment, as well as that it was a nice way to let the students make their project their own.

Creative Short Story

REFLECTION
I really enjoyed this assignment, creative writing, I think, is one of my strengths as well as one of the most comfortable places I feel on the English spectrum. But that can also be one of my weaknesses. When in a group writing assignment like this one, I tend to take over and be a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to the main events, character development, and formation of the actual story. one of my definite weaknesses is being a micro-manager, I like things done in a certain way and when their not it makes me feel a little anxious. However, my partner took majority of the photos, did a lot of the editing, and she also supplied a lot of good ideas to help form the new world we created. Overall I am extremely grateful to my partner for putting up with me and for the future I am going to work on this weakness to be able to work better in group assignments.

During this experimental lab my group and I decided upon seeing if wood-bugs would prefer to eat celery, or a gummy bear. The wood-bugs chose to eat the celery and my group and I thought that that happened because the celery is more accustomed to the wood-bugs natural habitat and usual diet. Personally I thought this was a fun experiment, although going out and actually finding the wood-bugs was proved a little difficult and picking them up was a little gross. I definitely learned something from this experiment, not just about wood-bugs but also about how to work with different people with different opinions. Something I could have done better was to maybe choose a better hypothesis that could have shown a more drastic change that would have provided my group and I with better, more reliable information.
