Reflection:

The purpose of this assignment was to do a French revolution radio broadcast. In this assignment, we used the core competency of communication. I and Matthew used communication when discussing among Matthew, but also in the project. Since it was a news broadcast, we each took turns communicating to each other within the project simulating how a real news broadcast would work in real life. Individual reporters communicating and interviewing others live to convey a message. Something that I could have worked on is my communication skills with Matthew. When I and Matthew could have communicated better is when we were writing the script, We had to rewrite some parts because we didn’t talk about how we were going to write it and we did it wrong, so that’s why we have to communicate.

Core Competency Reflection – Critical Thinking

When Matthew and I shared and discussed our ideas, we used communication skills well, and I think we also presented our researched information well on our website. Our creative thinking was also a huge part of this project. We had to complete a lot of it in order to get to our final idea. After using our brainstorming skills, we had to analyze and critique our ideas by thinking critically, questioning our designs, and developing the idea into the prototypes that we made. During the creation of our presentation, we each used our strengths to contribute, we both completed the website together. We were able to solve challenges quickly when making sure the website was functional.

Free Verse Poem

Core competency: Critical thinking

During this assignment, we had to create a free verse poem. I had to use a lot of critical thinking on how to create this poem. This caused me to create the simile, metaphor, and personification. For example, while I was creating this poem I thought about how fogged looked. So I remembered that fog was both in the air and the ground, this brought up the personification of the fog sitting and overlooking the city. Fog cannot actually sit or overlook something. It was hard to do the alliteration because I could not think of words that begin with the same letters. So I decided I wanted to start off with the alliteration using the word fog. This is when I decided to take one word that described fog, which was fluffy. I needed one more word so I decided forecast because fog is a type of weather. That’s when I came up with; a forecast of fluffy fog. I tried my hardest to use critical thinking in this poem and I think it paid off.

I would like to work on…

I feel like I need to work on my creative thinking. This poem seemed basic in my eyes and not very creative. Next time I feel like I can add more thoughtful and creative lines to my poem. I do feel like I could have done better making this more creative.

Reflection

The core competency I believe I used regularly most during this project Arctic Ice project was critical thinking. I used critical thinking while I was researching, I was making sure all my sources were founded and I made sure to look on many different websites to see if they had non-identical knowledge. Something I could improve on is time management because my last few days of winter break I was working on my project when I could be with my family, so that is something I will be more aware of next time.

Core Competency: English 9   Creative Thinking

For this assignment, we were asked to re-image act 3 in The Merchant of Venice which is Bassanio picks the casket, Antonio goes to jail escorted by shylock and lastly, Shylock learns about his ring and Jessica sells it for money. I had to experiment with my writing, adding in additional creative details and description to the scene.  I tried to incorporate illustrative language such as reflection and alliteration into my piece as well.

Ways I want to improve are…

I think that I can further improve my writing skills in future assignments by looking at incorporating vocabulary words as well as additional figurative techniques. I also need to improve my sentence vocabulary.

Core Competencies Reflection

  Core competency:  Creative ThinkingFor this assignment, we were asked to go to work with our parents for Taking your kid to work day 2018. I went to work with my dad to do construction, I used creative thinking because construction involves a number of creative thinking skills such as design, flexibility and consumer-based thinking. An example of this is when my dad was building a house and he had to make design decisions of what he thought would best suit the family. He was deciding what material to use on the outside of the house, he chose slate rock because it looks slick and keeps heat inside the house. Overall this experience has taught me how creative thinking decisions are made outside in the real world. I thought this was a great learning experience but would want to go with someone else as I could learn different skills.

 

 

Ways I want to improve are…

The way I could improve is, asking more questions, taking more of an interest in my parents work and applying skills I have learned to real life.

Reflection: For this assignment, I think I used creative thinking aspect while making the light and dark side. We used many different objects to make the darker side. For example, we used cardboard to make half of it the darker side, even though sometimes the wood bugs would try to crawl up the walls or get out the tiny cracks. When they would try to escape we would fix it and try again. My group and I used creative thinking throughout the lab, through communication to figure out a way to make sure we were happy with our final product.

The things we could improve on were, we could have used all our class time well, so we could work more than doing on the second day. We could also help each other without getting frustrated and we could stay calm in our group.

Hello! I’m Tyler, As you know I’m a grade 9 student at Heritage Woods. I play hockey for the Port Moody Panthers and I’m categorized in-house. The other sport that I play is lacrosse, in lacrosse, I play for the Coquitlam Adanacs. I also enjoy riding  Dirtbikes, Quads and mountain biking. This year I’m hoping that I can learn and do good in all my subjects that I’m taking, my goal this year Is to get assignments in on time and do good overall. I am looking forward to what things Heritage Woods will have to offer for me, like clubs, classes, and friends.

The reason why I chose this quote is that it has many ways you can look at it. One way that you could look at it is that you should take every shot you don’t take in a sport. Another reason why I like this quote is that it was said by an athlete Wayne Gretzky. Overall, I think that this quote was very well thought out and I hope it inspires many people.

My favorite youtube video is about building a dirt bike track, I chose this video because I’ve always dreamed and wanted a dirt bike track.

My favorite website would have to be YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/). I find it very useful I need to watch something that I don’t know what to do. This site makes it easier to discover new people to see what they’re doing. This website helps me learn more about what is going on in the world just with just typing in what I want to see, I have learned and continue to learn about topics that I am interested in by using this site.
