After searching up my name or any social media usernames I created, I have not yet found any pictures of myself. I did find links to my Instagram accounts and Google accounts but that was only when I searched up my full usernames. These links weren’t accessible though because of my private accounts.

Your digital footprint is a trail you leave online forever.

A digital footprint is data left behind by users on digital services. Digital footprints are created when personal data is released by a user for the purpose of sharing information about oneself by means websites or social media.

How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities? 

When applying to college, all aspects of an applicant are taken into consideration, and often times this means the applicant’s online presence. Example: when you apply to school make sure all your accounts privatized from all the public. Another Example would be If you have bad photos on social media and they see those bad photos they might not give you a chance.

Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe.

One example that you can keep your digital footprint safe is to use privacy settings. Privacy settings helps for people that don’t follow you can’t see your posts. Another Example could be is to change your password regularly, but whatever your situation is, you should be changing your passwords on a regular basis. Another Example that you could keep your digital footprint safe is to check your account activity. Checking your account activity helps, it’s worth doing this regularly to make sure nothing negative is going on. The last example is to close your accounts that you’re not using them, they get hacked and sometimes they lead the way to the more valuable accounts that you really do care about.

What information did you learn that you would pass on to other students? How would you go about telling them?

I learned how important it is to have a safe and appropriate account on social media because they can affect your future a lot. If a friend of mine had a public account and was going to post something unsafe I would tell him that it could affect his future opportunities. It can affect his future because for example if he was going to post inappropriate photos on his social media it could affect his job opportunities in the future.
