English 9

INTRO TO ENGLISH

What do I want to learn in English 9:

In the second semester I am excited to start my  English nine class. I want to expand my vocabulary,  learn how to properly write interesting essays and be able to finish reading larger novels. My conversations would be much more engaging since I would know new words and it would make it easier for me to express myself. When I use the new vocabulary that I learned in my English class my teacher might believe that I am an intelligent student. If other teachers see me utilizing the things I learned in English, they can assume that I am also using the material that they teach in my daily life as well.  I would also like to learn how to write an essay with proper structure. I could use that ability in the future. For example, when I am applying for a job the hiring manager could be surprised by how well written my resumé and cover letter is. I would also be able to use the interesting vocabulary that I learned in my grade nine English class to surprise them. This would give me a greater opportunity to be hired for the job I am looking for.  It would be great if by the end of the year I have read a novel that I was interested in and had fun reading. I tend to start a novel and lose interest half way thought it. For these reasons, I would appreciate it if in my English class we focused on learning new words, essay structure and if I could finish a book.

For this assignment my group and I had to use communications, creative and critical thinking since we first had to brain storm the main points in the story. When we came to a conclusion my group and I used communication to express our thoughts to each other. When we finished taking pictures, we split up and had to write why we believed that this was a major plot in the story.  I used creative and critical thinking to answer this question. I enjoyed the story since it was very up to date and the story could be related to many kids at my age.

For this project my group and I were assigned to design a poster and create a campaign video to support a character from the novel,  Animal Farm.  We chose Napoleon to be the rightful and trusty leader for the farm. We used creative thinking to chose this character and to create interesting  facts about them that will convince the audience that he would be the right leader for the farm. My group as well used Critical Thinking to analyze and critique the poster and the video.  In conclusion, my group used creative and critical thinking for our Animal Farm character poster.

For this project we were assigned to make a poem which consisted a simile, metaphor, alliteration, personification. I used creative thinking for this assignment to match my poem with my picture. I need to present this project in a creative manor.
