Water Cycle Comic

Reflection:

Using creative thinking was essential for this project since I had to turn a scientific water cycle to a children book. To make the comic make sense, I needed to think and imagine the journey of a little water molecule first. I chose to start it at the top of the mountain, which I needed to draw an extra step describing the little water molecule melting. I couldn’t use many scientific words, so I tried to use the simplest language to discuss the water cycle. I loved creative writing so I added some interesting parts, therefore, it wouldn’t be awkward when I shift from one stage to another stage. For example, my little water molecules expected to make more friends. During the process, I also had to learn how to continue correcting and working on my ideas when my thoughts couldn’t be proved scientifically. I enjoyed drawing this comic because I like making something joyfully and playful in my life.

I want to improve:

My comic wasn’t that colourful, so I wish I can remember to add more colours next time. More colours also can attract people’s interests. And I expect I can make the process of the water cycle more clear since only one word was not enough for explaining.

C.C reflection: Communication:

I am able to discuss the question with my group mates and lead the conversations. We split up the work so everyone has a focus in this project. We had conflicting opinions during the preparing, but we were able to solve them and find a way to compromise. I was glad that we had many ideas to develop the whole plan. My group mates used time effectively during class time. We sometimes talked online about the project after school in order to have a better understanding of the experiment.

My flag

The reason for choosing China’s and Canada’s is pretty straight. My origin is China, but I emigrate from there to Canada. So far, I have spent almost 2 years in my life here. It is not a long period; after all, most of my identity is formed in my hometown, Shanghai. I am glad I have the opportunity to come here, to diverse my identity and enrich my experiences. I did divide the flags and combine them again. If this flag represents me, I would like to be understood and introduced as an integrated person. Basically, my flag looks similar to Canada’s flag, but with 4 little stars around the maple leaf in the middle. This will be what my future identity looks like. I will become a Canadian one day, but I want to remember where I come from in my heart. The spirits from both countries will turn me into a better person.

Core Competency reflection:

Core Competency: _______Creative Thinking_____________

Here is evidence that I can… generate new ideas, build upon my ideas, build upon or combine ideas of others, develop ideas through experimentation or writing, use setbacks to advance my thinking, take significant risks with my thinking etc:

As far as I concerned, this project is mainly testing our creative thinking. We have different cultural backgrounds; therefore, our flags will not look the same. There is no right or wrong answer. While I was doing this assignment, I was thinking what I should do to combine these two flags into one; and what else I can improve so my flag won’t have the exact looking like others‘. I actually drew two flags. The idea of the current one was born when I was doing the first one. I suddenly came up with this thought of dividing them up. I guess I am developing my thinking through the process.

Ways I can improve are:

To me, I have tried my best to think and draw creatively for this. I want to explain the meaning of my flag better so people will have a deep understanding of my heritage.

Invention Infographic

Here is evidence that I can… strategize, analyze, reason, estimate, model, be creative, visualize, reflect and revise, connect, use mistakes to advance learning, use technology or other tools, extend, reason logically, adapt my ideas, etc.

Core Competency: _______Critical Thinking____________

1.   I am a good researcher. And I enjoy taking notes and put them into the right categories. I can well connect today’s society to the days before the Industrial Revolution. I am glad that I learned a lot from this infographic assignment. I study my mistakes; I used to mess up the designers with the same first name, but now I can tell their differences without hesitating.

Ways I want to improve are…

For an infographic, I know I should add more pictures to create more visual connections to the history. Too many words may cause more boring effects. And I will improve the ability to be more specific on conclusions or explanations.
