Tae Kwon Do

I like this activity because it improves my strength, respect, and discipline. I also like this activity because it’s challenging and it improves my work habits. I just got my black belt resently, and to get it we had to do a long test on all the skills we learned since white belt. The hardest part of the test was where we had to do all the 70 one step sparing techniques that we got taught how to do a week before the test.

This is a photo of me using a long stick when I was younger.  Each test before black belt you had to do a certain kick to break a board. In the black belt test you have to do all the basic movements, all the poomsaes, one step sparing, all the weapon movements, and you have to spare against someone. The black belt tests can be anywhere from 6 – 10 hours and my test was nine and a half hours.

I first started martial arts after I quit soccer and I wanted to find something I enjoyed, so my parents signed me up for karate and I enjoyed it. The karate studio I was in ended up shutting down, I then joined the tae kwon do place I am in now. Martial arts is important to me because I have been doing it since I was 7 years old, and it has also taught me new things.

These are the reasons I like tae kwon do and I want to continue it for as long as I can.
