Take Your Kids To Work Day 2019

On Wednesday, November 6, 2019, I went with my mom to her work for Take Your Kids To Work Day 2019.

I asked my host (my mom) questions as required for interview, and here are the things she answered:

What is your job title? Accounting staff.

What is your job description? Mainly accounts payable. Make sure the suppliers are paid correctly and in the contracted payment terms.

What are the duties/tasks you perform at your job? Enter suppliers’ invoices into the accounting software called “Sage 50+”, reconcile monthly with supplier statements to make sure purchase and receiving records are correct, print and cut cheques and mail to suppliers according to the contracted credit terms, and file the supplier invoices and payment records.

What qualifications do you have for this job? For training and education, Accounting Certificate and knowledge of how to use “Sage 50+” is required; for experience, all companies need accounts payable; for skills and attributes (personal qualities), needs to be extremely careful and down to detail, make sure not paying suppliers wrongly or late, or there would be legal consequences.

What are some of the things you like about the job? Nice working environment, fits to my talents.

What are some of the things you dislike about this job? Sitting too much, kind of boring.

How do you anticipate this job changing in the next 5 years or so? With ERP system developing fast, we can foresee that accounts payable staff can be replaced by better systems in 5 years of time.

My personal reflections:

Reasons I would like this job: This job has a nice working environment, it fits my talents and my personal qualities, simple tasks to complete, and there’s an acceptable salary.

Reasons I would not like this job: This is kind of a boring position, with not really high pay rate per hour (less than $30 CAD an hour), sitting there for 8 hours a day could really hurt my back, and my brain needs rest too.

Is this job for me? Personally, I do not think that this job is for me. One of the main reason is that the income is just too low for me, as I already earn around $30 USD per hour when I live stream games online. Another thing is, I like to have a fan base, and doing this job is just almost impossible to get any fans. This just is way too tiring, and I just cannot sit in a chair working on stuff for 8 hours straight without rest.

Explain the value of the Take Your Kids To Work experience in relation to your ideas about your post secondary plans. Although I had a good time in my Take Your Kids To Work experience, I don’t think this will have any connections to my future job. I do think that I have the talents to attend this job, but I just do not like what I do in this job. I really want to do something that I will have a fan base. Maybe be popular on social media, do something that will change other people’s lives, or try to start a business and I might succeed. But before anything, I will attend a university or a college first for sure.

My Extra Curricular Activity

The following is one of my extra curricular activities.

Here are some of my featured videos on my YouTube channel:

When I started making YouTube videos, this was one of my first videos. It was really helpful to others, and got almost 100,000 views.

This is one of my recent ones, it’s kind of an animation in Minecraft based on the song “On My Way” by Alan Walker. The audio quality is bad because that was a way that is actually allowed to use to escape the Content ID claim.

And that’s all about one of my extra curricular activities!
