Animal Farm Campaign Project

Evan D, Aden C, Jack M

Propaganda is information that promotes or influences an individual to do something, often a method used in the vague world of politics. Political leaders such as Donald Trump and Justin Trudeau are all guilty of committing, not necessarily a crime, but rather, this technique to help them come to power. Propaganda can be exemplified in various natures, for instance, the involvement of bolded lettering, intriguing statements, banners, and music. The “I Want You” poster, first published in the United States of America in preparation for WWI, is an example of such. The alluring illustration of Uncle Sam pointing directly at the individual completed nicely by the bolded statement proceeded the person into thinking about joining the US Military. For our assignment of creating an election campaign for the character “Snowball” from Animal Farm, we used various propaganda techniques. Furthermore, we incorporated three different aspects into our campaign poster: bolded font, captivating phrases, and an illustration of Snowball, himself.

Utilizing propaganda techniques increases one’s chance of succeeding in the election. In our campaign video, we included various aspects to keep the audience intrigued and interested throughout the entirety of the film. With the inclusion of criticism towards each particular candidate, we were able to find several pieces of information that we used to our advantage. Furthermore, this tactic was primarily focused upon describing terrible matters that each nominee did. We also incorporated reasons as to why Snowball should be elected into power and stated various promises for the future. Along with the addition of catchy music, our video incorporated an abundance of different types of propaganda. In conclusion, I believe that our group successfully created a campaign video, as a result of winning the election as a whole.

I believe that our group did an excellent job of following the criteria and ultimately constructing a thorough and well-designed campaign. Nevertheless, there is always room for improvement and growth, and it is then learning from our mistakes is what helps us improve. In regards to our poster, we could have added more content to add more overall appeal. For our video portion, I believe that we could have improved upon the editing, including more visual effects. Lastly, for our oral presentation, we could have simply added more points as to why Snowball should be elected into the presidency. Nonetheless, I do believe that Evan, Aden, and I came together nicely and created a wonderful assignment.

Afrika Road Video Project

Afrika Road is a short story written by Don Mattera. The author has taken quite a unique approach when writing this novel. Afrika Road is a long stretch of road in South Africa. The road itself is the narrator of the story, who expresses its opinions and shares the story of a war. This battle is between the native Africans and the white minority. Essentially, this minority has taken over, and the people are fighting in protest of the government. They are fighting against the new set of laws and for more freedom. Afrika Road is very observant, very aware of its surroundings, as it portrays a vivid image of the battlefield.

Our assignment was to compose a rap about Afrika Road, that described the plot and story outline. Collectively as a group, we were able to communicate well together. Each member had an opportunity to share their thoughts and opinions. After the completion of a line, we would ask everyone if they were satisfied with the overall result. As for the costume design and choreography, we ensured each group member was pleased with our decisions. Overall, working together went nicely, as we had a fair understanding of one another. Our process in which we came together to work on composing the rap, is an example of using the core competence communication.

Creative thinking was another one of the core competencies that we used when constructing our Afrika Road rap. We incorporated various poetic devices that helped enhance our writing, which included alliterations, repetition, similes, and assonances. Our unique lines enriched our overall performance, as well as some essential choreography. With an abundance of matching clothing, our group was unique in that sense. Overall, this was a very exciting and fun project, in which we did well in, as we utilized our creative thinking. However, if there was one aspect that I would like to improve on, it would be memorizing the full script.
