Take Your Kid Work To Work Day 2019

Questions for my host (first-person narrative):

1, What is your job title?

Instructor

2, What is your job description and duties

The instructor of Kumon centre has many duties. I do the planning for the students and management, including scheduling and designing the stuff toward , give the training to the staff and give students test, and any thing related to run the Kumon centre

3. What qualifications do you have for this job in the following areas?

a) Training

The training has been for two years, we have training sessions in different locations, Toronto and New York, and I still have training coming

b) education

They required a bench degree but anything related to education I guess will be a plus. I got my master degree. Before I get this job, I’ve been teacher for many years. I have experiences working with different ages.

c) experience

Any thing related to education will be a plus. Very importantly, you need to have very good math and reading skills and abilities.

d) skills and attributes (personal qualities)

I have strong background doing math and reading, I am linguistics. I have experiencing in teaching languages, especialy English to be the second language, so I work with students with different background and ages. I know how to work with them. Also I am good at planning, because this is something I’ve done in my last job.

4.  What are some of the things you like about the job?

To work with children and students, it’s something about education. because that’s the thing I’ve been doing all the time. That’s work in my life, and also you have chance to meet people with different background. I am very happy to talk with different people.

5.  What are some of the things you dislike about this job

There’s too much work for me, I have to work every hours and basically forty hours a week. To better plan for the students, I have to know what the students and sometimes I am thinking how can I help this student better while I am driving and cooking, but it’s not something I dislike, it’s just a lot of work. This is my job, so I have to do it.

6.  How do you anticipate this job changing in the next 5 years or so?

It would be a lot similar, It can be easier for me when I get more experiences, but it should be lot alike what I am doing right now,

 

My Reflections:

1, Three reasons why I would like this job

a) I could teach and play with kids

b) While I was teaching, I am still learning math and English, and improve myself

c) It can improve my communication skills and other abilities

 

2, Three reasons why I would not like this job

a) As my host said, there wastoo much work and I have to think about whats to do next every moment

b) I have to remember all the students’ names, strengths, struggles etc. That was a lot information to remember and I was bad at membering

c) For me, it was a big trouble to organize the check, money and record them

 

3, Reasons why this job is for me

I think that at some points, this job is for me. I very like to teach and play with kids. By teaching students on different level, I can learn and review the knowledge. However, there is too much works and tasks. I have to think of the ways to solve problems about students and parents. I need to do schedules for every students and make changes if students can’t come or don’t want to keep study in Kumon. I don’t have enough time to relax.

 

4, The value of the TYKTW experience in relation to my ideas about my post secondary (after high school) plans

I think that TYKTW is a good chance for me to experience more jobs in Kumon. Because I am volunteering there, I always do Front desk or work with EAL students if there’s not enough teacher. I want to do jobs that are related to computer science. However, it is still very great to work in Kumon. May be I can become a teacher in kindergarten or elementary school if I can’t become a programmer, because I very like kids, teach and play with them.
